Other Bikes / Kawasaki Brake Caliper Pistons
« on: June 17, 2011, 07:20:49 PM »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi folks,

I recently bought a spare set of calipers from the internet with a view to restoring them to give me a spare set should problems arise with the originals on the bike. The calipers are for a 2008 kawasaki Z750.

I stripped down the calipers then got to work cleaning the grime / rust from the caliper pistons.

pics 1, 3 & 4  show the before and after of the cleaning. I used grade 400 wet & dry paper with solvol autosol to remove the worst of the grime, then I buffed the pistons with the polishing wheel ......... the wheel is made of tough string,  so no metal content.

I was quite pleased with the results but as you can see there remains some pitting at the top of the piston.

Bearing in mind that these puppies cost

This is the Uno 3 Transforming Bike which is Electric Powered. Its Trick is that it turns into a unicycle. Downside is that it only does 35MPH tops, but the plus side that it has a built in gyroscope to keep it balanced. Perfectly Road legal!!!

Could you imagine explaing this one to the boys in blue !!

CB350/400 / A Tale Of Two Sprockets .............
« on: September 03, 2010, 07:25:33 PM »
Hi to all,

as you all know to try and find a new rear sprocket with an original gaurd fitted for the 400/4 is pretty difficult, so I came about this " used Sprocket " which looked like it had plenty of life left in it, but still classed as usedand tatty, SO, out came the paint and I "tarted " up the sprocket and guard.

Not bad I thought, but still a niggling thought that no matter what I did it was always going to be a used Sprocket.......... see first set of pics.

So, plan 2, get a new after market spocket, an old guard, restore the old guard and then rivet the gaurd to the new sprocket, Looks o.k and now with a new sprocket  :D see second set of pics

CB350/400 / Latest Mini Project
« on: August 30, 2010, 04:35:29 PM »
Hi To All,
Here are some pictures of a gear leaver and linkage that I have just finished.
I stripped all the old chrome off by dipping in Hydrochloric Acid (brick cleaner) and then used various scotch & abrasive dollies on a hand drill to polish up the stripped metal. I am pleased with the lever part as there were some deep marks that were got rid of !!

I then re Zinced the prepared parts, followed by another light polish and then fitted new rubber. I think that the lever has come up rather well  :D, I know that the zinc won't be as hard wearing as chrome but re chroming is getting expensive and I can always Re Zinc when it wears through.

Manufacturers, Don't you just Love em, The bring out these droolworthy motorcycles that look cool and are just that little bit different and then never release them  :-[ :-[ :-[. I realise that some of these pictures are doctored but still mighty tastey motorcycles.

If it were YOUR money which would you buy ?. I would go for the CBR Honda.

Is it me or does the seat on the Suzuki in pic 4 look like a duck's bill ???;D
