Thought I'd adjust the cam chain today and was surprised when I took the cover off to find my points missing and this in their place ........ can anyone identify it ?

I'm presuming my recently ordered Hondaman system is now defunct

Spanking NOS rev counter fitted to replace the incorrect one previously fitted - the latter I suspect not accurate at much anything above idle

Now I was the first to accept that my bike wasn't set up well enough to red line at will ...... seems I was doing it a disservice

I have noticed that the counter seems to stop around 5k and even when the bike seems to be revving rear maximum it stays there ... unless you are extending the time at high revs - then it jumps up to 7/8k

So today I paid attention to engine sound v rev counter and yep - sticks at 5k for what seems an age before registering, what I presume, is the correct revs

An added feature is that if you wait and are suddenly registering say 7k .... if you keep it at this the counter then drops to 5k and wavers then between 5/6k .... even though the engine is still doing the initial registered 7k.

So - I haven't done anything yet to cable / bit where it goes in to the engine as I thought I would wait for some pointers - perhaps it is a known feature to someone

Ok - so thanks to Ken I’ve a carbtune carb balancer and I’ve pipes / fittings on the way ....

All the videos I’ve seen show I presume the older carbs with the screw on the manifold and adjustment done via visible lock screws.

I don’t have either so am I right that the gauge connection is the screw in the picture and adjustment is under each carb top cap ?

1978 CB550K

So decided to check adjust the tappets but wanted to double check I've understood the info before I start

So set the timing to 1.4 - see pic below ... have I got this correct ... is the T in the right place or does the mark left of the T need to be in the middle of the mark above it ?

Depending on where in the revolution I am I've got either #1 or #4 tappets loose - both exhaust and inlet

Am I good to go

The upper front brake hose is deteriorated and ideally needs replacing.

It seems that the part  45126-390-003 is no longer available and I'm probably being a little dim but can't seem to find an alternative.

Any help appreciated - ideally in a black sleeve as per the original

Just bought this 1978 CB550 which I'm guessing is a K3 ... won't be able to check till I get the bike which won't be for a week or so

Hopefully it will be a running restoration / improver as time and money allows

Apparently it will come to me serviced and checked front to back with any immediate work done and completed - we shall see

These are the sale pictures which I'm assuming the eagle eyed knowledgeable will be able to point out any obvious incorrect bits that I can change as and when
