Took the CB550 out today for a 25 mile loop.
Pictures were taken in the exact spot the camera man was on a iconic Rainier Beer Commercial in 1978 with a 1978 CB750K8.
video link below.
great memories from my childhood. nearly impossible to round the corner without  mimicking the commercial.
Sound on for sure!

I've tried PJ but £70 dearer than DL.
A firm called Hagerty a tad cheaper than DL with guaranteed value.

Time for another little run out. All working great though front brake needs more miles to bed in. This is looking out over morecambe Bay near Cartmel Close to my home. 550 has got a lot of soul and is a very comfortable  ride for my rubbish hip joints. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

CB500/550 / Re: Comstar brake shoes
« Last post by b_1_rd on April 19, 2024, 06:18:25 PM »
So, after all the fuss trying to get the right brake shoes turns out the brake plate was from a 550 (so the shoes I got were correct for that) but the wheels seem to be for a 650 and the two don’t appear to be compatible.

When everything was properly tightened up, the plate was rubbing on the hub rim, which explains why there was a washer inside pushing the plate away from the wheel hub, but that left a small gap which would have let moisture and dirt in I would think.

So ended up buying a 650 plate (with shoes) from eBay, which arrived today, and everything now fits properly!

Another learning experience!

Fun but could do without buying things that I don’t use. Hoping eventually to get some spoked wheels so will keep the 550 plate and new shoes I have in the hope I can use them on there.

Ted,
I have just received my renewal from PJ for the XJ-S V12 - an 89 car with just under 20k, so I obviously wanted agreed value.  Last year was £303 but this year it's £403 - unlimited mileage and UK and EU breakdown cover.  Didn't want to just cough up, so I rang them to discuss.  I have a self built much modified injected classic Mini Clubman Estate with them, so they tried to put the two together but that made little difference.  All of my bikes are with them as are the everyday Jazz coupled with a 2000 Mazda MX-5 Icon.  Computer says 'You are 75 in June, so away from the cheaper sweet spot for insurance'. I blame me Dad for telling the truth about when I was born!

It's a bugger, this getting old but the alternative is shite!

Thanks for the kind offer Bryan.
I've been kept out of the man cave today as the O/H has a day off. I'll be back to restoration duties on Sunday and will try the spare valve and see how it goes. I may be in contact for bits if this plan fails😁👍.
You don't have a couple of the carb drain clips that fit to the swing arm pinch bolts do you? Happy to pay.
Cheers
Dave
