Title: warning label and sticker locations
Post by: Laverda Dave on November 21, 2016, 10:49:14 AM
Does anyone know where the 'Showa' shock absorber sticker should go on the rear shocks?  I have seen two photos, one showing them facing the rear of the bike and one showing them on the inside facing the rear wheel?
I'm also at a loss where to put the black and silver 'Honda Motor Co, Tokyo sticker and exactly where the Honda exhaust system sticker should go, is it located somewhere on the silencer?
Also, should there be a silver and black 'E' sticker somewhere on the head stock?

Not all the stickers go on all models, what are you working on?

1978 400/4 Bryan.
I found a photo of an early 400/4 with the exhaust warning sticker located on the swingarm between the pivot and the pillion footrest. I'm not sure if this is the correct location for the F2?

As far as I know my F2 is original and has the original stickers.
No stickers at all on the swinging arm (no pillion footrests either!).
The 'E' sticker id on the right of the headstock above the frame number. I can get a pic tomorrow if needed.

If I was being pedantic I would say yours is most likely a 1977 400/4 - I don't think manufacture went beyond then although registrations did (mine was first registered in 1981 although manufacture year now corrected with DVLA and age-related plate issued).
If you are interested I can PM you my engine & frame numbers and build date, to see how yours compares

Thanks Chris.
Do you have the exhaust sticker on your bike (the one warning not to modify it). I need to get the E sticker. Does your bike have the Honda Motor Co, sticker?
Do your rear shocks have the Showa sticker?
I've just ordered a set of 3mm punches to stamp my new VIN plate.

There is no exhaust sticker on my bike.
I have just had a look in the Parts list and the "Mark, Muffler Caution" sticker is shown but was only fitted to US and Canada model bikes.
I will get a pic of the E sticker showing location tomorrow.
As far as the Honda Motor Co sticker goes where are you thinking this would be?
I think US bikes may have had something like this on the left of the headstock. I don't recall one on mine but will check again tomorrow.
No Showa sticker but then I fitted the TEC shocks that are on the bike - the ones on there when I got it were completely wrong.

Dave,
Picture showing E sticker showing location as promised.
I have had another look and the only thing stating Honda Motor Co is the VIN Plate on the down tube.
I think the Honda Motor Co sticker on the headstock was probably on US bikes (and maybe Canada) only.

Showa Decals goes on the original rear shocks, I have one pair at home.
I have the complete set of"warning&decals" for your model, if you need some decal let me know.
Best Regards.

Hope this won't cause confusion. My US 75 400F had an exhaust warning sticker on the right rear swing arm as already mentioned and as can be seen here. I got a replacement from DSS as mine was worn away.

Mine had no E sticker though, I'm guessing this is a European mark?

Hope helpful

Shouldn't cause confusion at all. As noted earlier the Parts List says the sticker was only fitted to US and Canada bikes, so your US bike having it is correct.

The original post also asked about the location of the Showa stickers on the rear shocks.
All the pictures of Showa shocks I have seen show the label facing the back, like on these supposedly NOS ones:

Thanks for all the replies. I'll put the Showa stickers on the rear of the shocks. Chris, I didn't have the E sticker in my kit but I did have the exhaust silencer sticker and the Honda Motor Co sticker so I guess I have the US sticker pack!
Piki, can you supply the E sticker? Let me know costs etc, if can I order via PayPal?
Apart from the continuing carb problems the bike will be finished over next weekend.
