Misc / Open / Aldi Bike Wear???
« on: March 08, 2013, 02:30:32 PM »
Hi,

Just seen Aldi are selling bike wear again. I have bought coats for general wear from them before and been pretty impressed with specification for the money. I work in the fabric business so I am hopefully qualified to make such a judgement!

I don't do may miles and usually wear full leathers in anycase so looking at light usage.

Has anyone had any experience with these jackets / leggings. Are they properly waterproof etc?

Appreciate any comments.

Misc / Open / Import duty - Japan
« on: February 05, 2013, 11:10:24 PM »
Looking at a big bore kit from Japan on eBay for my 400/4. The feedback all seems well besides some gripes re import duty. What is the rate one should expect (plus vat too) and do you always get picked up on larger items?

Any experience / info appreciated.

CB350/400 / Non Starter Fuel issues???
« on: January 14, 2013, 11:24:38 PM »
Actually got round to playing bikes this weekend.

Got a 400/4 about a year ago. Would not start - nasty gummed up carbs. Stripped them and part way thorough cleaning them with ultra sonic cleaner etc. (did this when I first got the bike but not touched it since)

Anyway picked up another bike the other week, again a non runner but nice bits to cannibalise. Thought I would try carbs on existing bike. Didn't want to get into full strip of them, just see if the bike ran. So I have serviced them from float bowl end only. Cleaned  everything up and blew through all orifices / jets. Although I have a full service kit I replaced main jets only for now as I just want to see how bike runs before strip down. Cleaned emulsion tubes and set float heights.

Good spark, timing seems fine but will only fire occasionally on the odd pot when trying to start it. Had it running for a couple of seconds with easy start too. PLUGS ARE DRY!

Fuel in float bowls, no leaks all looks fine really.

The only jets I didn't clean were the air screws. On removing the 2 in situ on the outside carbs, these they are covered in a wet reddy brown mess, not clean fuel. No more time today but before I take carbs off again to look at this, would a blockage here stop it starting with symptoms I describe?

Over to you experts!  Any help appreciated.

Announcements / Bakewell Motorcycle Museum - Group meet / Ride out
« on: June 17, 2011, 04:03:37 PM »
Anybody fancy a get together in the Peak District. Meet the people behind the posts!!

I have a business in Bakewell (Derbyshire) and a few doors down the road is a small Vintage m/c museum. Probably about 30 bikes - mostly British stuff. Website is:-

http://www.mccollection.net/

They have been featured in MCN a couple of times to my knowledge, you may have seen the articles?

I know the chap that runs it and floated the idea of perhaps the SOHC forum visiting. He said no problem but they are actually closing the collection permanently at the end of August.

Thought this would be a good opportunity for a ride out / get together. Bakewell itself is a nice place and in the beautiful Peak district. Also the area motorcycling Mecca, Matlock Bath, is only 9 miles away.

Was thinking Sunday  7th August. Let me know if you are interested and we can get some numbers together.

CB350/400 / 400/4 Gunked up carbs - Help.
« on: June 16, 2011, 08:41:32 PM »
Checking out why newly acquired 400/4 will not start. Not run since 2004. Spark seems fine but carbs very gummed up.

On stripping them, all floats  were seized solid. Have got them moving but cannot remove pivot spindles to strip them down further. Reading the site a good soak in cellulose thinners seems favourite.

Any other advice please?

CB350/400 / Ooops!! the garage just got another addition!!!
« on: June 16, 2011, 08:33:29 PM »
Another project has arrived to keep the 750F2 company (while it waits for me to get round to it).

Just picked up a 400/4 F2. More or less original besides added corrosion! Will post some piccies when I get time. As opposed to cafe project on the 750, this will be kept as Honda intended.

Hasn't run since 2004 I am told. It won't now either - spark seems ok but carbs full of fuel residue - see my other post.

CB350/400 / Breaking 400/4
« on: May 08, 2011, 11:22:23 PM »
Hi

Bought a 400/4 as another project but rushed it a bit and now realise various engine parts I had assumed were there are not. I am therefore reluctantly breaking the bike. Have listed it on ebay. Please let me know via this forum if anything is of interest.

Really peeved because I was well excited as I have always fancied one of these.

Cheers

Other Bikes / Daylight only MOT
« on: April 28, 2011, 12:51:09 PM »

What is the situation with daylight only MOT.

Do I assume if lights are fitted they must be working? Assume you cant just put it through for daylight only specific test and any lights fitted will not come into it.

Any help appreciated.

Probably one for Brianj !
