Right, just spoken the main man.

Yes we can leave tickets with carpark marshalls against name /  registratiins. Gates open 9.30 but can arrive from 9am. We are expected to stay for a minimum of 3 hours if showing a bike.

Tried to get a specific idea of space allocation to us but they can't tell us yet as still taking bookings. Looking at 200 bikes so far, which in my mind is impressive but no expert on this type of event.

Can those coming  please PM me with User name / real name / bike model and registration. On the email please specify if you need any extra tickets over and above the foc allocation for those on SOHC bike. HOWEVER IT HAS BEEN CLARIFIED THAT REDUCED RATE TICKETS CAN BE BOUGHT ON ENTRY.   You will need some identicfication which I have indicated will be a copy of an email I will format and forward to all that are coming.

I will let you know my contact phone number by return PM  so you have a contact on the day.

This should all work in my mind but let me know if I am being dim and overlooked anything..

Bit confused as to why people are ordering tickets? I thought if we'd already registered interest and were taking a bike, then our free entry was arranged (pending ticket collection tba).
Peter.

No need to worry. Post was really just for those having to pay as not on a sohc bike to show. Sorry if it read otherwise. I have 15 tickets covering initial stated interest and some have dropped out since too. No worries!

Hope that softens things a bit if bikeless...

Great post idea this, loving it.

Well like many of you I too am an engineer - of curtains! :P

Left school after 6th form with pretty poor A levels, after messing about too much. Went on to college to do Applied Biology but unfortunately with a similar attitude. Passed year end exams but not course work. Chose not to repeat the year and went to look for  jobs a lab technician using my science  background. No idea how but somehow landed a job (100 applicants!),  at what was Derby College at the time, in the Textile Technology / Fashion and  Design department. Although I saw myself as "macho biker"  and fabrics were for girls, I found the scientific theory behind them fascinating and eventually qualified as a Textile technologist via good old day release.

Moved from the academic environment to work in quality control of clothing fabrics for an M&S supplier in Telford (when we actually did such things in the UK). Moved back to Derbyshire early 90's to set up a fabric quality control department for an upholstery manufacturer. Eventually the role morphed into buying responsibility as well, giving me a wider knowledge. Eventually left, taking voluntary redundancy to go it alone in retail of curtain and upholstery fabrics. Grew this from a market stall business to opening our current shop in Bakewell, which will celebrate its 20th year of trading this November.

Although I love my daily work I am rarely happier than messing about with house renovation, especially woodworky bits and of course fiddling with Japanese 2 wheel relics!

Interesting post, specifically  where case barrel openings are smaller on some 500's versus 550. When I had my  500  in the 80's I fitted it with standard 550 block and pistons....  Barrels did fit cases, just - but engine always ran too hot, so I reverted to standard 500 kit. I always suspected but never knew cases were different in this respect.

Is anybody camping up there, and if so - where to?

I don't fancy riding 3 1/2 hours, in the morning and another 3 1/2 hours the same day.  I managed it years ago when I was dispatching but not now.

Hi Mike,

There are a few campsites near to the Tramway museum but possibly fully booked for reasons of the event itself....? However as very popular tourist area, many others about. Can't really specifically recommend anywhere but  usual google search should sort it if you need somewhere.

Got an email from one of the organisers. Obviously difficult to post an email but content as follows:-

Dear Club Organiser,

Below is a copy of an article which has been posted on our blog, with a Facebook link.  It is also the basis of a press release and I thought that you might like to have the information.

Thanks to the generosity of a local business, Derwent Waste Management, we have three cups to be competed for at our Classic Motorcycle Event which, this year, will be on Sunday 2nd July.

The winners of the cups, for ‘Best in Show’ (which will be chosen by our visitors on the day) ‘Best British Bike’ and ‘Best Foreign Bike’ (both of which will be selected by a panel of judges), will enjoy possession for 10 months until they have to be returned to Crich for next year’s event.  However, the winners will keep a presentation medal as a lasting award for their win at Crich.

We are incredibly grateful to Derwent Waste Management for their sponsorship of awards, which will add greatly to what is to be an annual event.

ANY OF YOU GUYS GOING TO DO US PROUD?

Oh yes!

drive past that regularly. Always looks a bit rundown with old garage / petrol station in front. Is it a truckers cafe with big mugs of tea etc!
