Sad to say the cb650r hasn't worked out, it's turned out to be an expensive mistake, was unable to get a test ride on this before purchasing unfortunately.
Bland and character less I'm afraid.
I was hoping for much more all round, so it's back to a speed triple for me. Still got the 400/4 to get fettled at classic honda restoration in January, thank god the wife doesn't get to see my bank account :-)
Changeover is Monday 4th October, just in time to ACF50 on it and wait for spring.

Shame as the Honda is a smart looking bike.
I should think it does feel bland after the triumph though.
I like the idea of another triumph but I don't like the dealer's attitude.

I've been trying to find a nice, c.2002ish speed triple then I keep seeing CB900 Hornets which are easier to find. But my heart says Triumph and all the old reviews also say the Honda is bland and boring, despite being using a 'detuned fire blade' engine.
Good luck with the Triumph!

Shame it didn't work out. Unfortunately I think new bikes have become like new cars, full of electronics and rider aid's to provide a 'better riding experience' but seriously failing to do so. And they all look the same these day just like cars. I was looking at buying a CB500X or NC750X but I can't get a test ride because there are no 2021 models in the country until November. Having looked at the 2020 model in detail they are all plastic so now giving them a miss and looking at a RE650 Interceptor. I haven't read a bad review anywhere and there's no reported problems, they can be serviced at home and even die-hard sports bike journos rave about their character.

I just sold this (Feb 2002)

Too many bikes in the garage and never rode it other than to the MOT every year...

Exactly what I'm looking for / at - the black ones! Was the exhaust loud - it's pretty teeny.
-
Yes... Never failed an MOT though :)
28k miles. Only problem was a starter switch that only worked 95% of the time. £2,250

The RE650 Interceptor looks a nice retro bike right up my Strasse it reminds me of my Triumph 21 listening to the sound but without the vibration & oil leaks.
If the 400/4 is too small for me when I finally get to ride it I could be tempted - it's that or a Royal Alloy Scooter if I can't get my leg over the frame - my right hip is giving me a twinge!

I like the latest version of the RE 650 ..... in Candy Red. The original tank looked a bit boxy, but the new one is tidy

I know what you mean about the triumph dealers. I was lucky to find my bike at an independent dealer. Its great opening the garage and just going aah,, I don't miss the cb650r one bit...
