Hi, I have recently purchased a 1977 CB550 F2. The previous owner replaced the clutch cable which I believe is too long. Do the clutch cable lengths vary from year to year or model to model?
Thanks

with a lot of US imports, they have high bars, and need longercable
is yours a UK or US bike?
maybe see if someone could supply lengths of each

It's a uk bike and the handle bars are original.

Maybe PO ordered the wrong one. Consult p. 39 of your Parts List: http://www.honda4fun.com/pdf_parts_list/pdf_spac550/CB550F2/CB550F2_2.pdf

A lot of generic "pattern" parts list the same cable for all 500/550/750 fours so it probably does not fit any of them properly, proper Honda one isn't cheap but usualy better

Here is why. Look at the details and compare with imitations.

Big thing to remember with genuine cables is NEVER EVER LUBE THEM It swells the rubber/nylon linings and makes them bind

Recently my clutchlever is very hard to operate*. Some years ago I lubed the OEM cable with some WD-40. I thought it was harmless. Maybe it wasn't. On the other hand the cable is the first replacement and now has served some 70.000 kms. Next week I'll have a look behind the sprocket cover. Bryan, do you have a tip to free the cable down there from the thingie. Last time I was there I couldn't widen the slot where the bottom end of the cable sits.
*Could this indicate a snapped rod?

Hairy you translate so well!!
its hard to describe but there is a small "tang" under the cable nipple that needs bending down so you can slide the nipple down till you can wangle the cable out the slot-----still prefer my first answer!!!!
