When testing its necessary to turn both gearbox shafts to select gear. Possibly a selector pin has fallen out of the selector?
I can't remember which selector does what but the centre one has a loose pin to locate in the drum groove hald by an "R" clip that can come out if not fitted correctly With engine out you can remove lower crankcase without disturbing any of the top and observe what is going on when the drum is turned 6204

Ash DVLA when i was doing loads wanted to "Inspect" the vehicle if a dating certificate was not from manufacturers but not if you used a Honda letter. Inspection meant you had to transport the bike to the nearest open VOSA testing centre of which there are not many left and always miles away from where you happen to be!

If you set the slide heights to a slide that was slightly open they wont close properly

One of the boyer ignitions uses standard coils the other uses 6 volt coils in series(or 3 x 4 volt if its a triumph trident)giving extra wasted sparks. Its over 35 years since i fitted one so cant remember which is which

If you have greased, or lubed inj any way, Original Honda cables you make them worse as both the inner and outer have linings which swell up and make them stiff
