%00 also wears into the main oil gallery ain the lower half but I think the 550 was cast slightly different so the chain don't hit (as much). you can feel the groove with the sump off if its been rubbing

TT 100's for the 500 are 3.60x19 front and 4.10x18 rear, you will wear out at least 2 rears for one front.
The 550 went to a 425/85x18 rear which will last a bit longer.
TT100's were/are in my opinion the best tyres for the 500 but as soon as the rear tyre centre tread gets to the limit of 1.6mm(I think) the tyre is illegal

The 450 had 341 sliders which were slightly later so if you can find that number on them, usually a sticker and/or black marker that would probably be them

When testing its necessary to turn both gearbox shafts to select gear. Possibly a selector pin has fallen out of the selector?
I can't remember which selector does what but the centre one has a loose pin to locate in the drum groove hald by an "R" clip that can come out if not fitted correctly
With engine out you can remove lower crankcase without disturbing any of the top and observe what is going on when the drum is turned

Ash DVLA when i was doing loads wanted to "Inspect" the vehicle if a dating certificate was not from manufacturers but not if you used a Honda letter. Inspection meant you had to transport the bike to the nearest open VOSA testing centre of which there are not many left and always miles away from where you happen to be!

I bought some NOS American rubber gaiters for the 500 and after one ride was left with lots of loose rubber rings on the forks

If you set the slide heights to a slide that was slightly open they wont close properly
