Title: SeanFD.... In the news 😁😁😁
Post by: Nurse Julie on December 28, 2023, 08:05:02 AM
Sean may be having issues with his 400 engine but his 750 K2 is getting him around the world. Well done Sean

Thanks for sharing that Julie,
I hope there's a book to be read soon - better than 'Itchy boots' for me anyway 'cos he's on a classic Honda.  A new Ted Simon in the making.

Have a great New Year folks - don't wait, DO IT NOW!!  My fellow Super Cub rider and adventurer Doug passed away on Christmas eve, so we never got to do our German trip.

Sorry to hear about your friend Ian. That’s an epic trip by Sean and a good read. I don’t know how many miles his planned us trip will be but it sounds quite an odyssey.on a much smaller scale  If I get my 550 working reliably I may repeat  my 1979 500/4 trip to France this summer.

Thanks David,
Yes, it's a bit raw for all concerned but I'm certainly looking forward to reading more of Sean's epic trip and we can all follow him these days with Googly Earth and the like.
Lots of the South Lakes VJMC folk used to meet up with the Nab's Head (Lancs) crowd years back for rides out and shows - not sure if that still happens?

Fantastic tale from Sean that reminds me of my 'Road Trip; from Toronto to the Rockies' back in 1976. I first passed through Detroit and Chicago on my Suzuki GT500; completely underwhelmed.......the parts I rode through were dumps ! After that I specifically rode on minor or 'backroads'....most US roads basically go North to South or East to West, so you can't really get lost ! At the time I just headed where I felt like it......no real plan other than to see the places that I'd read about and fancied as a kid. The Dakota Black Hills, Mount Rushmore, The Little Big Horn (I switched the engine off and coasted down about 10 miles from where General George Custer lost his life), Yellowstone National Park (Fanbloodytastic) and came back into Canada through Glacier National Park and then on to the Rockies. I had planned to see Vancouver but the beauty of Banff and Jasper meant I stayed there until I had to get home to Toronto. 6K miles in 3 weeks.

My 21 year old Grandson has decided after he finished Uni last September that Snowboarding is the life for him, so he's upped sticks and got himself a job as a Bellhop at a swanky Hotel in Banff...........'Snowboards R Us' it seems......I'm so pleased that he's got to enjoy the most beautiful scenery on earth at such a young age. He says that he gets well paid simply to 'smile and be nice to people', and when he opens the curtains each day "It doesn't get any better than this" ! I doubt if he'll ever come back to sunny Manchester.......but if he does I'll get him into motorbikes.........that's probably the best gift I can leave him.

I'd have thought one Belfast would be enough in my lifetime, but hey, I have been to two. A few miles down the road from me HMS Belfast is moored on the Thames, I hope he doesn't forget to go there!  ;D

I just envy such folks for their time (and means) at hand to follow such projects...  ;)
(maybe once I retire...  ;D)

I had no idea we had a ‘travelling star’ on the forum. Top work Sean - is there a blog somewhere that I’ve missed?

Good on you Sean :). Great read and just shows the other side of humanity, its not all wars and corruption as the media love to report. The bike broke down twice, Honda's don't break down, it must have been bad fuel ::)
Motorcycle touring abroad is really something else, nothing like the UK with all the potholes, camera's, idiot car drivers etc. If you have never ridden outside the UK promise yourself to do it next summer even if it's only a long weekend in northern France, amazing experiance.

I've ridden or driven in a few European countries and they have got just as many idiot drivers as we've got. 🙄

Best place for driving standards was New Zealand in my experience.

I followed Sean's trip and problems at the time. A bit too adventurous for me if I was on my own. Well done.
Did get to Athens on my longest trip with a small group. One Brit bike came back in a van.
Still love travelling in Europe, freewheeling and camping a bit, but in a car for the last 20 years.
