Did you instruct on the hazards of mercury when the mercury arc rectifiers got broken or scrapped?
Heard stories of the floors of control rooms having tiny globules of mercury sloshing about.

I always upgrade to Viton on the hundreds of SOHC engines i have built over the years  ;)

So what thickness Viton™ 'O' /  quad -ring would you recommend for use with genuine / late model head gasket please?

Closest I can find in Xring is 12.42 x 1.78

Cheers ... I need to check with USA site as somebody used Viton ™   and that was thinner than 2mm because of the increased hardness (i.e. 75° as compared with nitrile 70°).

The 'O' section ones in Nitrile are available here in packs of 6 ... The same firm that Guy Martin and hid dad have used for years  :)

I understand that you are only doing 'O' rings for 500/550 but someone needs to come up with a suitable  replacement for 12115-300-305
(See Service Bulletin no. 42) attached. These allow the later head gasket intended for later cylinder heads with the knock pins  to be used on early heads.

As I understand it, a nitrile 12.5mm ID x 2.0 O ring is a decent alternative. A quad ring 'x' section, might be even better but might take a bit of sourcing.

I have many suitable replacements but, it all depends on what head gasket you will use as different manufactures used different thickness  ;)


Genuine Top end set .. marked K3 on the outer packing ( has the adhesive stuff in the centre section).

My advice ... get yourself some Duplicolor DE1615 with ceramic  .. that's what all of the guys and me on the US site use. Very close to original Honda shade. Hard to get hold of but worth the effort IMHO

US cleaners are switching several hundreds of volts at very high frequency into a highly
 capacitive load and are notorious for going pop...even the Ultrawave pro units do it. The usual failure items are power transistors or MOSfets that drive the US transducers. They are the 3 legged devices on heatsinks. Best bet is to use a multimeter on  diode test function to check every diode and betweel all legs of 3 legged output devices on heatsinks. The usual failure mode is short circuit, which will show 0v on the  diode test. If you experience this then best to desolder the device and re-check out of circuit just in case another component such as a coil etc is affecting the reading.

Just a comment here but any chance the 350 white referred to by Honda USA is a pearl white? that would give the reflective properties that Menno says they need without saying that Jo and Ben are wrong about the white base coat.
CB250/350K0/K1 (1968->1969) white is solid white. It's a cross between Ford Frozen White and Ford Diamond White. I mixed those two 50/50 % and it was spot on compared with a NOS part.
