Misc / Open / Re: recipes of them old Honda colors?
« on: June 20, 2011, 10:07:00 AM »
Trouble is the early Honda colours had no standard make up plus a lot of them were 3 pack "Candies"

Oh dear, see what you mean. Standox does show a number of 3 stage formulas which may be a good match? but i dont know.
How do the professional restorers overcome this problem?  I paint cars for a living but usually steer clear of bikes, if i havent got a code i use my colour chips but i havent got them for bikes.
Sorry i cant help.

Hi,
i looked on my standox system and they list quite a number of honda colours but dont list many of the models they were for >:(
If you ask the painter which supplier they use you could tale a panel to them and have a look on there 'digital display' to see if any match up.  Failing that, the supplier should have a spectrometer to match the colour if he has a sample to check.

HTH.

I do a lot of 2k spraying (i run a mobile smart repair business). A compressor (if big enough) equiped with a co-aliscent filter will provide clean air which must then be run to an airfed mask together with its own filter. This is safe.
Dont do as i did when i started by trying to use one of these 'gerson' type disposable masks sold on fleabay as safe! You will eventually become sensitised to the vapour (which means you will never be able to go near solvents or 2k again) or worse develop asthma.
I use a Hydrovane rotary compressor in my van, through a 3stage devilbiss filter, then to an airfed full mask (and i only spray outdoors), 2k is, as said previously,  NASTY STUFF!  I feared i learned this lesson too late as my lungs are pretty bad now.
My advise for what its worth is 'leave it alone'!

Hi folks, i've just aquired a 1977 cb550 from a customer whos husband had just passed away. This will be only the second Honda ive owned since my 1st bike, a ss50 i bought back in 1975.

It looks like the old guy who had it had looked after it well, apart from cleaning the carbs it fired up nice and sounds pretty good, im hoping to m.o.t it next week and use it as my daily bike for the summer. 8)

Looking foward to reading all your posts on the forum and learning as much as i can about the Honda's.

Cheer's, Dave
