CB750 / Age certificate?
« on: June 04, 2014, 08:51:09 AM »
Anybody know who I should contact to get a certificate of age? I've phoned Honda but the girl didn't seem to know what I was after, she promised to get someone to call me, but I've heard nothing.

CB750 / Not sure about new bike's identity!
« on: May 27, 2014, 12:40:31 PM »
I've just bought a project bike (apologies, it's a CB750 dohc) but there was no paperwork as it was advertised as a 'barn find'.

My concern is I can't find a VIN number on the frame and there are no registration plates. Is it possible to track or trace it from the engine number and if so can anyone point me in the right direction to do this?

CB750 / Rocker arm removal
« on: May 11, 2012, 09:26:53 AM »
Is it possible to remove the rocker shafts on a SOHC motor to examine the cam and rockers without taking the whole top end apart? If so how please?

CB750 / Brake calipers, which way round?
« on: March 13, 2012, 08:19:54 AM »
My 1978 CB750 F2 came with the forks, calipers etc already off the bike.

I'm now trying to fit the calipers and they just don't want to clear the disc. It's a twin-disc set-up and I'm trying to mount them behind the fork leg with the lugs facing rearwards, is this right? Is there some sort of additional bracket or spacer that I'm missing?

Unfortunately my Haynes manual is totally useless as there are no references to twin-discs apart from the exploded diagram of the caliper.

On the single disc CB750s I've seen the caliper sits on the n/s of the bike, in front of the fork leg.

Other Bikes / CBR600 master cylinder seals?
« on: March 07, 2012, 08:57:45 AM »
As the title suggests, I've bought a new set of seals for a CBR600 master cylinder and I don't know which way round the end one goes! I have the old piston and seal to show me that end, but the spring and seal fell out when I was dismantling it and I don't know if the seal goes at the piston end or the outlet end!

CB750 / Exhaust question
« on: February 15, 2012, 10:00:14 AM »
I have a 1978 F2 with a 4:1 exhaust, does anyone know if the earlier 4:2 exhasts fit? If so any thoughts where I could get the down-pipes? I've been told the ports are different on the F2 head so the older systems won't fit, is that true?

CB750 / Rear shock mountings
« on: January 16, 2012, 12:55:23 PM »
I've removed the rear grab rail on my bike, but I can't get the domed nuts up tight enough to hold the shocks in place at the top and I can't find anyone who stocks suitably thick washers. Any thoughts?

CB750 / Inlet valves
« on: October 04, 2011, 01:11:21 PM »
Hi All, just in the throes of rebuilding the head and after de-coking the valves the tapers on the stems of my inlets are quite badly pitted. I've looked for new ones but they seem like rocking horse poo and the few I have found are incredibly expensive. I was thinking of taking them and the exhausts to my local machine shop and getting them turned down as I'm looking at a mild gas-flow on the head anyway. Any thoughts or recommendations?

Misc / Open / Nitromors, is it just me?
« on: May 27, 2011, 09:05:42 AM »
Or has Nitromors lost some of it's 'bite' since they made it thixotropic?

In the 'old days' the clear Nitromors was pretty leathal stuff, one application was enough to get most paints wrinkling in seconds and I rarely had to apply a second coat.

Now I'm trying to stip the paint off the 750's tank and I've gone thorugh litres of this green (and damn expensive) gunge with hardly any effect!

Have they changed the formulation, and can anyone recommend a better, more effective paint stripper, bearing in mind this is a fuel tank so heat stripping is a no-no?

CB750 / Swinging arm grease nipple
« on: May 18, 2011, 08:06:50 AM »
Hi all, just got my F2 frame and s/arm back from the powder coaters, they've managed to shear off the grease nipple in the s/arm, does anyone know what size I need as I can't find it listed anywhere.

Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / Velocity Stacks
« on: April 04, 2011, 12:52:47 PM »
Hi all, just received my new velocity stacks from Mike Mentges at Steel Dragon Performance in the US, a really friendly guy and great to do business with.

These cost me $85 including P&P plus another 16 quid to HMRC for importy duty.

Despite being made to order they only took two weeks, and I'm looking forward to fitting them as I think they'll look the dogs wotsits! As well as a wide range of stacks they have just started doing all aluminium air boxes which look pretty smart as well.

Anyone interested can contact Mike at http://www.steeldragonperformance.com/

CB750 / Cylinder bolts
« on: March 26, 2011, 07:17:56 AM »
As the heading suggests, I'm on the lookout for a set of cylinder bolts. Checking mine and a couple are slightly bent (the cylinder was off when I bought it so it's oviously sustained some damage along the way) David Silver don't seem to list them, the only set I could find on E-bay were rusty and the guy wanted 18 quid, plus

CB750 / F2 frame dimensions?
« on: March 19, 2011, 08:01:31 AM »
I'm looking out for a cafe-racer style tank for my F2, I've seen one advertised but I'm away from home and can't measure my frame to see if this will fit. Can anyone tell me the frame dimensions where the tank sits, or what clearance I'd need under the tank? Cheers  :)

New Member Introductions / Noob to this forum
« on: February 25, 2011, 12:21:22 PM »
OMG, am I glad I found this site, I was beginning to think I was the only SOHC owner left in the UK!

I'm Paul, I've been riding bikes for more years than I care to remember, I only passed my car test when I was 21 because the then girlfriend refused to ride pillion!

Latest project is a 1977 CB750 F2 with a genuine 10,700 miles on the clock, a true barn find I got off E-bay in November last year. Unfortunately my garage is huge and drafty and a b*gger to heat so I didn't do much over the Winter (we had 2 1/2ft of snow for most of December and a big part of January!) but now things are warming up I'm getting stuck in.

For anyone who's interested this is what I've got to work with:

My humourist son has already nicknamed it 'Project Rising Sun' and you can see I've got some work to do, but I'll post back as it moves along. :-)
