Hi Ken

Thank you for your reply will have a look around for the grey ones unfortunately green seems the most popular colour for new / 2nd hand, I certainly need to get to the bottom of the bikes originality V5 DETAILS are

May 1977 is its reg date , colour is maroon , & it was sold to me as a K3 unfortunately its had 15+ owners so its going to be hard to work out what's been done to poor old "Muttley" (bikes Nickmane  ::))

We will get to the bottom of it with every ones help on here

CB500/550 / SPEEDO & REV COUNTER BEZELS
« on: August 01, 2020, 08:57:30 PM »
I discovered today when I went to fit some new instrument anti vibration rubbers that both my instrument bezels are not in the best of condition fact they look as if they are just RTV together  :( :( and they both appear to be missing the chrome / alloy band

Q1)     Am I right in saying that a UK MODEL CB550 k3 has green faced clocks
           speedo 120mph & Rev Count 11000 RPM ?
Q2)     1/2 way down the bezel there is a chrome / alloy band, Is this folded over band what
keeps the two half of the bezel together ?
Q3)     Is there a rubber seal that goes in between the 2 half's of the bezels

I like to try and source 2 x bezels  & 2x chrome bands new or 2nd hand Any advice or guidance please would be great to be able to try and sort this little problem out

Regards

Nigel

Hi Bobv7

I own a cb 550 k3 and at 60mph = 4500 RPM in top gear the gearing fitted to mine is
Front sprocket 17   Rear sprocket 37  but it does feel that it could do with another gear !

Hope this helps you

CB500/550 / CB550K3 Air scoop & Lower handle bar clutch casting
« on: July 04, 2020, 09:44:20 AM »
I have purchased a Honda CB 550 k3 which unfortunately has had more than its fair share of owner's in its life time & over the years has turned into a bit of a mongrel. Which hopefully can be sorted by some TLC :)

I am trying to source a tool tray / air scope for my CB550k3 would any one be able to point me in the right direction to be able to source one please, Are there any other's which will fit from other models of the same period?

I am also looking for a L/H Handel Bar Lower Clutch Casting with the letters PA stamped into it as I have discovered that mine has a stripped thread  :( which maybe one of the main causes on why I can't get a nice clutch adjustment

Any help with these items would be most appreciated sorry there are no pictures couldn't get them to attach  >:(

Hi Cooler on the coast

May I enquire what year and colour your bike is pls I have a CB550K3 which has sadly turned out to be a mongrel, The colour I have found out is a 550f colour. I would like to try and return it to something like original when it was made but this depend's how much has been changed on the bike and how easy it is to source the parts and the cost. If lots of parts have been changed I may go for a colour change to a colour similar to yours and just keep as a pure mongrel  8)

Project Board / Re: My CB550 K3 Restore Project
« on: June 26, 2020, 09:46:45 AM »
Hi

Wow a fabulous start to your rebuild I will follow this project with great interest as I have just brought what I thought was uk 550k3 but as from what I have been told it looks like I got a bit of a mongrel 550 k3 and would like to get it closer to how it was if possible.

Would you please be able to send a picture of the plastic tool tray / air intake that sits on top of the battery & main air filter box as I am missing mine and would like to see if I can get a 2nd hand one

CB500/550 / IGNITION COIL FITTING
« on: June 17, 2020, 09:06:29 AM »
Good Morning all

Can anyone help me please I brought a Honda CB550K3 a while ago and it not running very smoothly when out on the road so i changed the plugs and done the timing and balanced the carbs (Well attempted too  ;D ) I am just wondering if I got the ignition leads back in the right order ?  I have had a look in the manuals and I can't find a write up or picture to tell me which coil outlet feeds which cylinder  I know L/H side coil feeds L/H side cylinders & R/H side coils feed R/H cylinders So which ignition leads go to which cylinder from the coils, Any guidance on this I would be most grateful

Also for further reference which NGK plugs are best for mid range use

Many thanks

Site Feedback / FAQ / How to... / CB750k7 US import poor front brake
« on: April 13, 2020, 09:01:41 AM »
Good Morning All

I have stripped my front brake calliper down as the brake lever had no resistance, The fluid was nice and clean when it came out when I disassembled and the front hose looks fairly new which makes me think someone has tried to bleed the brakes before .
I replaced the Pads, calliper seal, new white nylon small washer & new fluid, I have checked the master cylinder assembly by putting a blank on the brake line and squeezing the brake handle which comes up hard  :) .

I cleaned and lubed all the parts ready for assembly, Reassembled and bled the brakes used the standard method of a bleed tube & still very spongey so tried it by drawing the fluid through using a syringe and they are still spongey :(

My question is the piston fitted to mine is the hollow version on one end I assume that the chrome machined end fits into the calliper with the nylon washer and the hollow end faces outwards towards the brake pad  Should there be a slightly metal domed part that goes over the hollow end of the piston that then touches the pad as the CMS web site IPC appears shows this part. ( no good IPC pictures in Hayes Manual :( )

I am sure this question has been asked many times before sorry to repeat it again any help would be gratefully appreciated
