CB500/550 / Changing HT leads
« on: September 20, 2022, 04:01:37 PM »
Hi All,

I have seen this discussed before, and it know it's not straightforward, as they are hard wired into the coil.

Is there a guide to replacing the HT leads? Mine are pretty knackered, so want to sort it out, preferably myself.

Bike is '76 550, import.

cheers.

Further checking, I might not have OEM anyway, this is what's on my bike now:

which is more like after market ones:

I'm after some new handlebar grips for my 1976 550K (US import), as the one on the bike are very soft and rubbery and twist easily, more so on left hand.  However the new ones below look like hard plastic? Were they originally like that?

I found an old thread saying non genuine aren't are long enough, an d I'd prefer genuine anyway, presume these are the best?

CB500/550 / Getting hot under the seat
« on: August 07, 2022, 05:48:08 PM »
Hi All

When riding in the recent hot weather the front seat area where I sit gets very hot. I've only had the bike since last October and so not ridden in this extreme heat and wonder if this could be contributing to it?

I had a problem with fuelling/carbs which was sorted this week, but that didn't seem to change the heat on the ride home.

Any ideas?

Re: Tyres, I posted on the US forum last year, before Julie kindly pointed out that is the UK forum....

Anyway I had this back and forth, see interesting reply from Flyin900

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,188360.0.html

Go a little wider. I used to run with 4.10 x 19 front and 4.25/85 x 18 rear and they were perfect. Sizes now are 100/90 x 19 and 110/90 x 18.

The more rubber contact area the better so the wider the tyre the more contact there is.

I sent my speedo to Peter, and he fixed it and returned it quickly, and I am very happy.

Thank you all for the recommendation and I can highly recommend Peter.

My bike is a 1976 came with a black and silver plate. It obviously wasn't original, as it's an import. I am big fan of them, but only on pre 1972 vehicles.

So, after having similar thoughts, also the fact the font was wrong, I had a black and yellow plate made by Tippers and I'm very happy with it, as to me it looks period correct.

Surely just starting it up every few weeks and letting it run until warm is enough?
