Does it even come off a 550? Found it on the garage floor and dont remember taking it off.

Just been quoted £850 to paint the tank and side panels on my 550. Single color orange and apply decals (I think).
Im genuinely shocked, should I be? or is this the going rate. A good friend is getting his Mustang redone in orange, if its close Ill slip my tank in with it.

My 550 came with two fuel taps. the one on the right was fitted to it and looks like micky mouse made it. The one on the left is what is shown in the cmsl parts file, but will not fit my tank.
Its an F1 so can anyone point me to what should be fitted. Ta.

Im looking for my next project and fancy making a "street tracker" type thing from a 550.
It will be cut and "customised" so a rough (cheap) one is best. Any body got one at the bottom of the garden ?

I have a NOS head light switch, part no 35150-300 730. in opened wrapper but never fitted.

The initial start up on of my 500/4 went well, firing on all 4 but running a bit rough and petrol dripping from an overflow pipe. So I took carbs of and double checked float height's again.
Dont know why but one was way off (3). Replaced carbs, air box etc inc new filter and now No 3 wont fire at all.
If I take the air box off and put my hand over No 3 intake it strikes up till I take my hand away, do you think this is still a float height issue.
Ive double checked tappets, points, timing, plugs and leads.

I have a near perfect 550 tacho except some gorilla with mole grips has broken off the threaded part that the cable screws on to.
I dont need the tacho but thought I could recoup a bit of cash by flogging it on ebay. So I thought take it apart and replace the part from a manky tacho out the scrap box.
I split it ok only to find its all one piece in there, I want to use the face as it very good nick and replace all the other internals.
So, can anyone tell me how to remove the needle without damaging it ? Does it just pull off or is there more to it.

After being retired for 2.5 years I've run out of house projects and my other bikes are relatively modern so I needed a project and this seemed as good as any.

In the copious amount of "stuff" I got along with my recent purchase are 4 sets of coils.
They all read 0 ohms when tested so I'm either doing it wrong or they are all scrap.
I dont want to buy used off ebay cos they will probably be the same, so can anyone recommend a source for
new ones or does anyone have some spare for sale.

Morning all, just saying hello.
I'd like to say I've bought a cb 500 four but its more a collection of boxes of parts. It was was on here in the newbies section posted by Nasher but I got it through the Ducati forum of which we are both members. Its a big mix of CB 500 550 750 and ss50 but I think I can get a complete 500 out of it.
This is it so far.
