CB500/550 / Dual Disc Conversion
« on: January 18, 2019, 10:28:13 PM »
Hi guys, I'm sure this has been covered before but I literally can't find it in the search the answer I need.

I have a 1978 CB550 K3, I'm doing the Dual Disc setup. Both forks have exactly the same mounting positions and dimensions all the same. If I put both discs on my Hub which is Asymmetrical, so the RH disc sits 3mm Closer to the Spokes, from outer edge of the Disc to the other is 124mm. (I always thought a 3mm spacer might be needed.

Now on my calipers the measurement from the inner edge of the Piston side to the other piston side on the LH is 124mm.

Does all this sound right or should I be using spacers on the mounting points or what? I have the Mudguard bracket on but it's on the outside of the caliper bracket ATM and not inside next to the fork. I obviously don't want to be pulling the lever and ending on my head first time.

Thanks in advance

CB500/550 / 1978 CB550 Electricals
« on: October 03, 2018, 11:20:42 AM »
Guys,

Having problems with my electrics, basically the new solid state Reg Rec i fitted, on the Black wire coming back into it is showing 1v Less than the Battery, therefore its telling the rectifier that the battery needs charging more when it really maybe doesn't.

Ill list what I have changed,
1) New Loom
2) New Fuse Box
3) New Coils
4) Dynatek Ignition in place of Points
5) New Hand Controls both sides
6) New lithium Battery

I've been through everything, earths, everything being wired properly, the stator everything!
I came to the Conclusion last night, that it's the Dynatek drawing the extra power because if I unplug it the 1v appears on the Black wire again.

I basically have to Run a new Black or Splice into the System before the White & Black that goes to the Coils that the Dynatek Connects to, has anyone got any idea where i could do this?

Rear light or horn maybe? The White and Black goes the the RH Switch which is Connected to Black as well.

I just don't want to Ruin a new Battery or anything else, so any suggestions at all would be appreciated!

CB500/550 / Hard Starting when Warm
« on: September 23, 2018, 05:16:53 PM »
Hi guy's,

My CB550 for some reason is very hard to start with the kick or Battery when I've been out a run and then stopped.

I have a Dynatek ignition system. Everything is all timed and valves perfect.

Anyone any thoughts?

I got caught out yesterday and had to trailer it home :(

CB500/550 / Horn Problem
« on: February 13, 2018, 07:09:19 PM »
Ok guy's,

I have a 1979 CB550k3, it came with the original handlebar controls but as they were faulty I bought new ones.

The original left side had the horn and slide over to pass which had the Light Green wire and Black. This new control only has a Light Green coming from that button and horn only.

As I'm sure you have guessed by now the horn works on the old button but not new. Anyone know how I solve it?

I'm sure it's beyond simple but Electrics aren't my strong point lol

CB500/550 / PD46A Carb Main Jets
« on: October 09, 2016, 06:32:25 PM »
Hi guy's got a K3 with Keihin Carbs and pods. I'm going to get new main jets as it isn't running correctly obviously on the stock jets.

My question is... What are the exact size of the jets? ie dimensions? I can buy two options 8mm long and 9mm long.

I can't take my carbs off just atm to check as I'm using it daily this week as my car is in for a service.

Thanks in advance
