CB500/550 / Values K0 vs K1 ?
« on: February 05, 2016, 07:10:25 PM »
Just curious - my bike (frame number 1040871) is I believe a K0 (engine number also starts with 1 but dont have it with me).

Is there any truth that K0s ar worth more than K1 or K2?

Anyone any advice on setting carbs up. I am anticipating investing in a balancer but for now have bench set using a small allen key so all 4 are the same. I have also set the mixture screws all at one turn out.

My plan is to get her going first then adjust the mixture screws before balancing but is there a methid of setting the mixture screws up without using a Colortune. There is something in the Honda setup manual that is downloadable from the site but seems there might be a page missing.

Any help/advice most welcome

CB500/550 / Alternator Wiring Loom Connectors - WHat goes where?
« on: January 29, 2016, 08:48:34 AM »
AGGH I am stupid, when I stripped my engine for rebuild I forgot to note where the connectors go in the loom wire from the alternator. See the attached picture.

I also have a bit more confusion as the previous owner fiited an oil pressue gauge and I am going to revert to the Honda pressure switch mounted on top of the pump but I can't seem to locate the originl wire for it. Or is that what the "uknown" wires are in the picture.

Hopefully someone can help undo my stupidity of not taking more notes/pics before ripping in  >:( >:( >:(

CB500/550 / 500 Four Steering Lock Key Question
« on: January 25, 2016, 04:21:36 PM »
My project bike has a key that fits ignition and seat lock. Should it be the same key for the steering lock or was this always a different key?

I am hoping it's the same key and that  my steering lock is just a bit rusted/gummed with crud  (I didn't want to try and force anything in case I break the only key I have !!)

Thanks all

CB500/550 / Oil Pressure Switch and light - much confusion on my part!!
« on: January 25, 2016, 12:00:31 PM »

Just rebuilding my 500 K0 1971 (USA model)and have come across an electrical problem.

On the bike currently there is a brass small pipe coming off the top of the oil pump which is connected eventually in to a small diameter plastic tube that leads along with two wires to the front of the bike.

The tube and the wires have been snipped off by someone so I am unclear what happens here. I assume the small pipe went in to a pressure switch somehwhere but I can't see a switch anywhere. I further assume the two wires went originally to the oil pressure light on the "idiot" display.

I am now however even further confused as I can't see anything resembling this on the Honda parts list, what I do see however is an oil pressure switch mounted on the oil pump where my current small bore brass pipe connection goes.

As always I am sure there is a simple explanation and hope a fellow owner can shed some light on what I need to do. Obviously haveing a functional oil pressure light is kind of important!!!!

Look forward to the replies

CB500/550 / CMS Exhausts Delivered today
« on: January 22, 2016, 03:42:52 PM »
Ooooohhh !!!

Look what the delivery man brought today, my new set of aftermarket exhausts from CMSNL.

Been waiting a while for new stock but well worth the wait. Ordered Wednesday in my hands Friday  :) :) :)

At first inspection look really well chromed and well made, however at £800 all in was a big decision but I am sure once they are on I will never regret getting rid of the somewhat pitted pair of 2-1s that came with the project !!

Reason for the post -- is if anyone wants a repro exhaust set then I would highly recommend the CMSNL ones but stock does seem to be a bit erratic.

Does anyone have a set of mounting brackets for the original 4 exhaust system spare they would be willing to sell?

Just on my final stage of engine rebuild and about to put back Cam but I have some confusion/questions around how all this works. This is really about satisfying my curiosity more than anythinig else............

So you line up the 1.4 timing mark so pistons 1 and 4 are at TDC and then line up the marks on the cam - I get all that but this got me thinking -- cos as an engineer I like to understand how all this works so here's my confusion.

Lets say Pots 1 and 4 fire at TDC , crank then  rotates 180 on the bang stroke, then rotates another 180 on the exhaust stroke and 1 and 4 then get to TDC again at the end of the exhaust stroke. Now surely the 1 an4 points will open again and fire the plug again. I would have thought the crank needed to rotate 360 before firing 1 and 4 again.

Clearly I am missing something obvious here or dooes it fire again at the top of the exhaust stroke.

Looking forward to demystifying this !!!

I am a bit mystified  >:( >:( >:(

CB500/550 / Proof of age documentation
« on: January 04, 2016, 04:27:45 PM »
I will soon be looking to apply for an age related registration form my 1971 500 Four K0 that was imported from USA in 2015.

I have all the correct Nova paperwork etc but may be struggling struggling to get a proof of age document that DVLA will accept

. I contacted Honda in the USA who sent me the attached but DVLA said they need to know both Year AND Month of manufacture but the person I had on teh phone was pertty clueless.

Does anyone by any chance know if the attached would be acceptable as proof of age documentation, Honda USA are saying this is all they can provide.

Thanks all

Does anyone have any pictures of assembling shift drum and mainshaft/layshaft.

I am struggling to get mine back in correctly on my rebuild

Even just a couple of pics showing them assembled would be good
