Title: Early 70's UK Hondas: Manufacturer’s VIN plate
Post by: Andrew-S on April 14, 2021, 06:30:20 AM
I’m viewing a 1973 original UK spec XL250 Motosport later this morning and I’ve always been of the belief that UK spec Hondas in the early 70’s didn’t have a Manufacturer’s VIN plate rivetted to the RHS headstock as UK legislation didn’t require it, and the frame number was just stamped into the LHS.

But I’ve just woken up doubting myself about the VIN plate, am I right? ???

Thanks,
Andrew

No VIN plate before 1976  ;) Never seen a VIN plate on the headstock of a 70's Honda, they were on the rear frame .

Hi Andrew,
Just had a peep at my K0 and there is no ViN plate; only stamped numbers & letters on the left hand side of the headstock.
Let us know what the bike is like.
Cheers
Phil

True, but i seem to remember there was a discussion on a different topic where there was doubt as to original country.
If it is UK  there shouldnt be a plate, if its a grey import there may well be

Thanks for the info folks, glad I wasn't losing any more of my marbles!

I'm just off, so hopefully the bike is what I believe it to be - will report back.
