Title: Newbie from Essex
Post by: Scotty67 on July 21, 2021, 10:56:40 PM
Hi all. I own a KTM 790 Duke and have just acquired a CB500 Four 1972 which I want to restore. The rear foot rest brackets have corroded. Any suggestions for alternatives, I'm thinking maybe I can fabricate a couple.  Thanks Scott

They are only pressed steel but are also where the exhausr brackets bolt on

OK, so I may be better off buying a new, complete frame e.g. a U.S. import. Only downside is that I would have to register it. The bike I have just bought has a V5. Thanks, Scott

Hi Scot and welcome - I'm sure a competent welder could fabricate/weld - particularly if yours is an original UK K1 which are more sought after than an import. I'm sure we could provide pictures/dimensions/templates

Thanks Phil, appreciate it! Any help you can provide with dimensions etc. would b really useful. The left one is corroded and perforated but the shape is whole so I could probably use that as a pattern. Or the import frame I've just bought I could cannibalise it but that's probably not the wisest option. I can always sell it on if I don't use it, really good condition 1972 import for £290 incl. delivery which I thought was good price.  Thanks again. Scott

Hi Scotty.

Try Hybrid motorcycles in Croxley (although classed as Rickmansworth for some reason). They are just around the M25

The guy who owns it is an ex-aero engineer. He welded up my Morini frame when it was cracked.  If he can make new hangers for your frame you could ask him to check the alignment as he has a jig and most old frames have been dropped at some stage in their lives. Best to check the alignment before you start spending serious money on it.

Details are:

Telephone: 01923 776660

Email:service@hybridmotorcycles.co.uk
Model Farm
Sarratt Road
Croxley Green
Watford Herts
WD3 4LP

He also has a website.

And if you decide to get the frame powder coated I can highly reccomend Microblast in Windsor. They have blasted and coated four frames for me over the past 10 years and are excellent. I had the Kawasaki Z400J frame and all brackets, yokes, headlight etc blasted and coated in April, £330 and took two weeks.

Good Luck
Dave
