Afternoon all,
New to the forum and forums in general, so hello to all and apologies in advance for any newbie etiquette errors!
First Motorbike project - 76' CB550 US Import.
Hope this is not sacrilege and I am still accepted but I am converting to a tracker/scrambler style!
Based in Newcastle so any local contacts for help and tips would be welcome.
Look forward to chatting to you all.

Welcome to the Forum. That's a great bike in a terrible state and perfect for a non standard build. Mine was in a state like yours and not worth restoring to stock and this is how mine ended up, 😊😊😊

Welcome to the forum. Your bike so do as you want with it. ;)

Build what you like :)
I am not going the 'restoration' route with my 750. I am not throwing away anything that was good....but bars, seat and exhaust were all scrap, so a build that uses different bits where you want isn;t spoiling anything. You are just putting another bike back on the road rather than letting it rust away to oblivion

That is fantastic and would be thrilled if I got gear to it. I’ve got a tuffside seat and frame hoop ready to go on so will look similar…I hope!

Thanks - I have a few bits. I haven’t fully explored the site yet. Is there a section to sell original parts to other members?

Welcome to the mad world of the SOHC ;) If using a rear frame hoop, it must be the flick up type as the rear tyre will hit a flat hoop and buckeroo off the bike.

Hi Trigger,
It is - thankfully. It has a slight lift - will share some photographs when I get the welding done and freshly painted wheels back on.

Welcome, perfect for a non standard start, similar to one I'm starting soon. Its great here, everyone's really helpful.
Enjoy :)

I built my 74' CB550 K0 without cutting anything off because it is a very early 550. Otherwise I might of gone further. I managed to achieve my goal of making it look like it was built in the 70's.
Build your bike the way you see it in your head. I tried to make sure that any modifications wouldn't detract from the handling and ridability of a great handling bike.

Thanks for the warm welcome - I am a genuine beginner with basic understanding of motor mechanics so standby for incoming
questions!

Top tip - thanks.
I like the tracker style so I have been debating tyre choice - which is taking an age to source what I want.
