Title: Insane TT lap
Post by: royhall on September 10, 2021, 09:22:51 AM
This is an insane view from the chinguard of Peter Hickmans helmet. I know these roads very well but he's going that fast it's almost impossible to know where he is at times. Enjoy.

I've spent the best time of my life at the TT and don't profess to being a super quick rider at all, I'm generally swift and when I want to be  can 'cab on' when the need arises but Hiccy??? That's fast! :o

I thought my Ducati853 was quick but that is insane! My eyes don't work that quickly I had no idea what was coming up next! ;D ;D
Massive respect to the lads on the island and all that go there to race or watch, I was a rep for scott leathers out there one year and quite honestly had the best two weeks of my life. Out of the extra 35,000 people on the island for the races, there were two arrests and that was two young locals batting handbags over a spilt ribena snakebite or something ;D

Everyone there was simply fantastic, I still haven't met a bad biker yet in 35 years, a wonderful family to be in ;) :) 8)

That helmet cam is the most faithfully realistic view I've seen of what it's really like to ride round there, they did something similar with Alonso at the Spa F1 practice session the other week.

I did the Manx on a CB600 in 1997. It looks like an evening practice, with the sun in the riders eyes all the way through the high speed Crosby section. When I did the Manx I found the low sun truly scary at speed, it has seen a few riders off at dawn and dusk. I was actually briefly holding up my hand to shade my view a few times, just to check I was still going in the right direction. Also some of the bumps are insane for a race track, I worried I'd broken a rib when I hit a bump coming onto the Sulby straight and the tank hit my chest.

That front tyre should last, considering the amount of time it spends in the air.

Going from Milnetown to Ramsey is the roughest road on the track. I was told by a classic racer that as long as you keep it over the ton the bike rides across the top of the bumps and smooths it out. They are pure lunatics that I enjoy watching in awe twice a year.

I noticed in the video that the speedo had been disconnected- it might have been Hickman who, when asked in an interview what his scariest TT moment was, said “when the gaffer tape came off the speedo on the Fireblade, and I could actually see how fast I was going!’
