My mate in Beverley can't get his 400/4 carbs to perform properly (despite U/S cleaning etc. ) and he was away on Holiday so asked me to make an offer on these eBay ones, from a bloke near me in Hull (he had borrowed my Gerben restored ones and the bike ran perfect with my carbs fitted).

I went to pick them up the same day as buying them and it seems the seller is a retired engineer and refurbs them to sell on. Must admit, I am well impressed .. refitted with all Keihin brassware .. all steel parts nickel plated, cleaned up alloy but not too 'blingy' and set-up and tested on his own superbly restored 400/4.
I can pass on his details if anyone is interested .

What I've always wanted to find, to no avail so far, is a source for getting those rubber parts in the carburetor holder set separately. Anyone know?
-
As far as iknow they dont exist unless you can make your own

The rubber parts fell to pieces when refurbishing my carbs. Am I ok to assume it’s ok to run without them?
Thanks
Charlie

I can't work out what they do aside from making it easier to assemble all four carbs onto the mounting plate.

Almost anything rubber that isn't a seal, electrical or your tyres I'd put down to being for suppressing vibration.

Dust covers.

Correct, keeps the secret additive out of the ball joints alegedley

So we don't need to panic if they crumble when we dismantle a bank of carbs for renovation?
-
I think they are a bargain especially if he keeps the original brassware. Pattern parts can be a nightmare especially the float valves that always seem to leak. I like the level tube, I must try and make one of those, got to be easier than setting the floats with a gauge that can also be a bit hit and miss.

No George, no need to panic. The carbs function just fine without them.

I will do, got some of Nurse julie's seals in my oil pump :D

The Hull guy gets his Viton seals locally .. he also has a batch of the little machined press in pins that retain the the carb operating shaft in the main alloy mounting plate..... such is the attention to detail. I would say the carbs that he sold my mate were at least as good but not as 'blingy' as the Gerben ones I have .. My Gerben ones have pattern brassware and a spray painted alloy plate and replated but slightly nadgered JIS screws ..plus this guy tests/syncs the carbs on his own 400/4. OK you can't hope to then put them on your own 400 and not have to re-do them but they must be pretty damn close. He has offered my mate £60/70 for his old set.
Attached is the pic of the carbs we bought synced on the sellers bike.

Is the guy on ebay Hydro Paul?, thanks

Yes .. that's him.

I'd definitely like his details please as I'm just started stripdown on my 76 CB400 that's been sat in a garage for 11 years.
TIA

I just need to phone him for you and another member to make sure he's happy taking on the work.
Hi ... I called him and he doesn't really take on carbs for other people. He just builds set when he can get the and then sells them on eBay. I think somebody on here contacted him via eBay and he is telling them when the set he is currently doing. he offered £60-£70 for my mates old set.
