Title: Valve guides
Post by: oldboy on December 19, 2021, 10:59:23 AM
Been look at Kibblewhite valve guides and they only list one for both In and Ex. I've seen somewhere somebody saying standard inlet and exhaust are interchangeable on the 500's (at a push) Is this the case???

Kibblewhite guides are brass and can crack when you freeze them in Liquid Nitrogen to insert them. They still need reaming out to match the worn valve stems once inserted, so not a plug and play item.

I wasn't going to get Kibblewhite guides, just looking on the site and notice they only list one guide for both In and Ex.  Standard guides I assume will be different lengths, but are the O/d's and I/d's the same??

Exhaust guides are longer for greater heat distribution. Kibblewhite probably show just the one longer length type because you would machine to them fit.

If you fit new guides be prepared to have to cut the valve seats to match, Trigger has the correct equipment to do this. TBH it's best left to a professional.
