Hello.
Is anyone aware of a H4 headlight unit, that will fit in the standard shell of the 175k6?

Thats the small diameter same as 400 i think, if so they are rarer than chromed rocking horse poo.
Sometimes you see period Cibie units which sre good

It's this type https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274639880812 that was often used for conversion when contemporary of the smaller motorcycle headlight shells.

In cibié terms it was called "H 160" type usually, and fairly standard pattern. British cars in Triumph range, Dolomite sprint, Stag, Vitesse etc used that size to and may be a route to find something.

Whether they fit into a 175 shell you'd need to check and verify, but that's the size used in 400 shell with a step ring as they were smaller than Honda rim fitment.

Bit of a risk here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165562806256 as condition on rear you can't see, it's in a car mounting (likely honda accord 4 headlight model of the 80s) but same fitment as others and a Honda original equipment.

The ring may give you something to adapt if needed to fit by cutting of the extraneous lugs from the car fitment half bowl.

Very good beam pattern on these with H4 bulb. Worthwhile if it'll work.

By the sound if things, it sounds like what i am looking for is a Cibie unit
Similar to the concave unit in my RD400. If so i think i stand more chance of finding Lord Lucan.
I suppose i could go the LED route.

If you are handy enough to make an adaptor ring the small car one can be made to fit, its slightly too small,
Any old british 4 headlamp car used them

I see DSS have a H4 unit for the 400f.
Do you think this would fit the 175 dia etc?

Unsure if the ds one needs adapter (thought the 400/4 shell is odd man out in diameter) does you one in Yamaha fit into the CB 175 shell ?

If so........you may be able to by a very good replica to match that one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233096661808 these are, I think, direct replica of that older unit.

The original conversion light unit I believe was a "Cibié Bi Oscar" and originated as peculiarity of FIA rallying rules at that time. They restricted the amount of lights/bulbs that could be used in competition with each lamp generally having one filament and lens dedicated to it's beam pattern as consideration in making those rules. 
This one, Bi oscar, had both fog (used as dipped beam) and long range spot (used as main beam) combined and fitted to a single lamp shell subsequently making it suitable for adapted kits sold to bike riders.

The link should give you the correct lamp but would need checking to ensure it's what you need. The 7 inch reference is for the outer shell diameter and not the glass (see disappointed view lower down) as a 7 inch glass unit lens is denoted as "Super Oscar" by Cibié which is the really big type you see on period ford escorts etc.

Thank you for your very detailed response. Its the adaptor ring thst bothers me. As i cant think if a way of making one.
I have not tried the Cibie out of my Yam. As i only realised there was a lighting upgrade required this week on the Isle if man.

As Bryan mentioned, they are effectively a standard size. Variously described as 6", 5 3/4, 160mm being measured at outer rim (absolute diameter of unit) or just the lens diameter the light passes through. All the same std though.

It's the 400/4 shell which is odd I believe, being not big enough for full size 7" lights but too big for the industry standard next size down, these were then supplied with a adapter ring to get the smaller size into the 400 rim mounting.

Others I think just used the naked small size straight into the bike rim and looking at your yam one will tell you that definitely, also of further compatibility in the 175 hopefully.

I wanted to change the headlight on my CB100N, I bought a chrome CB900 complete unit from Feked Classic Bike Parts, although the headlight is physically bigger being 7" diameter the mounting points are recessed so it fitted between the bikes mounting brackets. Just had to change the bulb for a 6v one. Don't know what the bracket distances are on a CB175K6 but might be worth a look?
