CB500/550 / fuel octane and final rejetting / pics!!!!
« on: June 19, 2012, 12:38:37 AM »
Hello all-
Well I have finally started and finishing up dialing my bike. Got 115's in the main and 40's in the pilot. So far so good except for the flat spot I am getting around high 2 and low 3. Anyone? Otherwise runs perfect. Rebuilt pretty much everything, replaced a bunch of junk and shed off alot of the weight. Also does anyone use high octane fuel in their cycles? I use regular now because I heard the low compression engines are not good for high octane fuel. Anyone else hear of this? Thanks and enjoy the pics.

CB500/550 / Pilot Jets
« on: June 10, 2012, 02:33:37 PM »
Hey all . Finished with the overhaul of the 1971 CB500 four. Came out beautiful. I got the carbs almost where I want them but may need to up the pilot jet a size. I have searched all over for the pilot jet but no luck. I have found a few sources for the pilot that is suppose to be in the carb but the length is about a mm or 2 too long. I talked to the guy who sells it and he is baffled as well. We took our digital calipers to the length and sure enough the length on the ones that are available are 1-2 mm too long. He also said that hes known guys who have dremmeled off to the correct length and got fine results. Has anyone had any experience with this? Or know a good source to buy Keihen jets?? Any help would be awesome. Also where should I post pics of the new build? Thanks guys and gals

« on: May 18, 2012, 05:36:38 PM »
Ok so I have a stock petcock on my 1971 cb500 four. It has r
Off , on and reserve. It has 2 lines coming out and going to the carbs. I redid my carbs and disconnected the lines. Now I'm confused what line is the reserve and the main tank? Does it matter? Prob a dumb question but does anyone know? Thx

CB500/550 / Starter wire gauge from starter to solenoid
« on: March 27, 2012, 02:45:09 AM »
Does anyone know the gauge or where I can get a wire to lengthen between the starter motor and the magnetic starter located on the control board?? Basically I moved my magnetic starter to a different location and need a heavy gauge wire to accomodate the distance. Thanks. 1971 CB500four.

CB500/550 / Shifting problems
« on: March 06, 2012, 06:50:46 PM »
Hey all
So I've always had issues in the shifting of the cb500 I ride. It's a 1971 cb500 four and sometimes when I shift it's hard or not smooth. I also sometimes can't get it into gear unless I let off the clutch a bit or hit that sweet spot. Any others had problems? I heard this model was notorious for having this problem. I rebuilt the clutch ( new plates, new basket, new lifter rod, new mechanisms in the left side crankcase too) but still have problems sometimes. Is this a matter of fine tuning the clutch on the clutch lever, left side crank case screw or anywhere else?? It's been happening for some time and drives me crazy. My buddy said it may be due to "hard drum gears" internally but I really don't want to tear this open to replace those. Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks

CB500/550 / Carb adjustment with new pods
« on: February 28, 2012, 11:01:16 PM »
Hello all-

I am completely overhauling, dismantling, and adding on a few things to my 1971 CB500four.  I just finished the new front brake, new master cylinder, drilled our rotors, new bars, new gauges, blah blah blah, etc...... Pics def to come. I am running a 4 into 2 exhaust system with the carbs adjusted and synced to that specific exhaust and the stock air filter box. However I want to clean up that triangle where the battery, regulator/rectifier/control panel live with the air filter box. So I've decided to get rid of that giant dinosaur of a airbox, change the intake to K&N pods, combine the regulator/rectifier and switched to a Shorai lithium battery with a custom box I am building. So far everything has gone pretty smooth. knock on wood

I do want to swap the air filter to the K&N pods and was wondering if anyone had any experience rejetting, syncing and making these little guys work on the carbs?? I haven't done the conversion yet but will be in the next few weeks and wanted to get a sense of what I am looking to get myself into. Some people say stay away dont do it while others say its super easy if you got the gauge to sync them and the time and patience.

So yeah any info would be greatly accepted, appreciated and definately used!!!! Thanks guys and gals....
