Hi everybody, After finally getting out on the bike i realised how poor the front brake is compared to a modern steed. The caliper adjustment is ok & no air in system, i think the problem lays with the hoses (feel spongy). Has anybody modified the caliper to take a banjo bolt instead of the existing metal pipe union. I have tried a set of Goodridge hoses (that they list for the bike), the top hose is too short & the bottom hose is too long plus the female union wont except the male union of the metal pipe. Goodridge just ignore you by not getting back to you. My idea is to replace both hoses with braided ones and do away with the metal pipe, hence question about tapping the caliper to take a banjo bolt.
Cheers, Tony.
PS, Apart from the front brake the bike runs well.

Hi all, new wiring harness, new coils, new battery, new fuse box, all lights work (inc. instrument lights) and all earth points are ok but no spark at the plugs. I'm no electrical genius, so what am i missing, what wires are wrong / not connected and where do i start looking. This bike was running before i bought it !.
Cheers, Tony.

CB500/550 / Very stiff clutch
« on: May 29, 2021, 09:09:16 AM »
Hi all, after stripping the clutch, inspecting and checking, rebuilding and fitting a new cable i am left with a very stiff clutch to operate. The bike is a 1977 cb550f2 american import with the modified clutch. I believe the cable is routed ok, could it be that stronger springs have been fiited!, where can i obtain ordanary springs?.
Cheers, Tony.

Hi Everybody, my names Tony from Leicester and have just migrated from SOHC. net. My current project is a 1977 Honda CB550F Super Sport which was an American import and purchased in Jan 21. I am in the process of replacing parts that were not working or bodged. It had spent a long time stored in a barn and had been a home to some sort of rodent (air filter full of sweet corn & nests in the air box). A lot of the work has been done now, just left with sorting out the clutch cable, fitting 2 new throttle cables, fitting a new wiring harness and then getting it running. The 1st photo was just after i received the bike. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]
