Day 3 A much better day today started with the zimmer but that wasnt fast enough. So i am now on crutches and have been up and down the stair. Hopefully home tomorrow. The only downside is a rash starting unde the dressing.
I had it done under epidural. Just after going into theatre I burst out laughing and they looked and said what’s so funny. I had just seen my foot swinging in a lovely graceful arc that no 63 year old bloke should ever see.  No wonder it hurts later on. Unless it was a spare, just in case. Then I fell asleep but awoke again for all the banging going on, maybe he makes cabinets on the side then back to sleep and awoke when the staples were going in. Amazingly no pain whatsoever from any part during the actual op. Even the epidural going in didn’t hurt, it just felt very strange.  ;D

And that is exactly the reason I didnt want the epidural.. Glad to hear you are feeling better. Yes.. the zimmer just didnt cut it with me.. crutches were much easier. The rash under the dressing (waterproof one I assume) is quite common these days.. be careful it doesnt change to a blister.. I had a couple of those and they hurt more than the wound.
Staples.. I was lucky in that I didnt have any staples and all the stitches were under the skin.. my surgeon used a relatively new dressing that they put on and then coat it with a glue.. kind of like laying in resin to fibreglass matt.
Keep up the good work and make sure you keep doing the exercises.. it does make a big difference.

Every new day it gets better.. apparently the passing out, peeing and vomiting is popular... some a left over from the General Anaesthetic, some an intolerance to the pain meds... so dont feel bad.
Luckily I didnt have any of those issues.. I did have a catheter for the first 24hrs though.... very strange feeling..
What is it with the epidural route??? The Anaesthetist asked me if I wanted one rather than the General... No way I was going to listen to them cut and hammer on my knee.. they did say you dont remember any of it but I needed the sleep :)
Besides... I had watched several youtube versions of my knee operation.. no way I wanted to be awake while that shit was going down...lol
Physio is the key to recovery.... hopefully you are feeling better and just like when you are on the bike... remain upright, inadvertently horizontal isnt good :)

Do exactly as Nurse Julie said.. you will understand in a few days :)
And be nice to the Nurses... they control your medication :)

Hopefully the pain goes away quickly.. Ice packs for 20 minutes at a time if you can bear them and make sure you do the Physio.. you will be back in the saddle in no time

Thanks for all comments, suggestions etc..
5 weeks this week and I am going well.. there is still some swelling and associated pain but I was expecting that.
I can mostly walk normally again.. no limp... at least until the knee puffs up and the the pain amps up with it.. again.. I believe that is normal as well. Going up stairs is easy.. down stairs I need to concentrate as I am still lacking strength in the surrounding muscles but all in good time :)

As far as which is worse.. hip or knee.. I have only had the knee done but from what I saw in the Rehab Hospital and from talking with friends who have had both.. Hip is a piece of cake.. relatively speaking. I even have one customer who told me the hip pain he has suffered for many years ended when they knocked him out for the operation.. since then he has had no more pain.. certainly some discomfort from the surgery (to be expected) but no more debilitating pain.

I have to say my knee is pretty much the same.. I wouldnt say there is no pain.. but it is different to the pain of a severely damaged and arthritic knee with a badly torn ACL..

Good luck with the Hip replacement.. hoping it is a smooth Operation and rapid recovery :)

Still havent been able to get up to where the bike is to collect it.. apparently I am not supposed to be driving long distances at the moment.. something to do with the Pain killers or some such rubbish...

So I have been slowly planning how I will go about this sorting this bike.. which is a bit tough as I dont know the build date / Vin number or condition other than the pics I have posted but... I had in my mind a nice rebuild...certainly not a nut and bolt restoration... and then someone posts a pic on FB of an absolutely gorgeous CL350 in a Candy Red with a wicked high mount exhaust and it gets me thinking.. hmmm how would it look with a CL style high mount exhaust.. retro road / trail tyres and high rise CL style bars?
Hmm maybe it is the drugs...lol But the 70's CL350's are a lovely looking bike.. and I am not sure there is too much difference.. visually anyway.. I wouldnt be worried about lower first gear etc.. just how it looks.

There is another thread running all about the possibilities of machining the 400 head to take bearing shells but I am not sure I would even attempt it here in Australia.. then again you might find some very resourceful machinist who can do something for you.

The other alternative is this head which has been floating about on ebay for about 6 months.. maybe make him an offer.

Thanks Ash
Yes, the plan is to maintain it to the highest standards etc...and the beauty of forums like this is the knowledge in here to know what needs fixing / modifying or weak points to ensure I build a reliable bike to have some fun with...

Haha... all comments are welcome. I understand the why’s but they are mainly based on past history.. where these bikes were daily riders and many pushed pretty hard.
This one won’t do too many miles and it will be well looked after and hopefully there may be some modern techniques to minimize the weak areas..
In the end it is something for me to play with after I have finished the CB400F.

Thankfully rot isn’t an issue in Australia..well not as much as the UK

I will work my way through the rest and should come out with a fun little bike at the end...
Maybe I should paint it Lemon yellow 😊

Ahhh, I can see the reason why and fully understand... I don’t get why people buy bikes and expect them to run forever with no maintenance...
I am trying to convince my son NOT to get a bike as he can’t keep up with checking oil and water etc on his car...and I know who will get the call to fix a bike 😤

Thanks for the links Ash.. . I will have plenty of work to do..
Once I get it home and can look at the Vin I will have a better idea of what it needs to go back to how it should be...or modify it slightly to appeal more.

And we do all have our own likes and dislikes etc... personally...this one is one of my likes 😆

Haha...is mine a G5 though? What I looked up showed the G5 as having a disc brake and was apparently de-tuned??
Anyway, I had one when I went for my license originally in 74 and I loved it... nice set of Dunstall mufflers gave it a nice note.
Granted I was a good 30 plus kg lighter and my memory may well be clouded..but they are few and far between here as most have been poorly chopped about as Cafe Racers and rattle can painted flat black... so good condition non butchered items get good $$$
