Title: CB550K1 real wheel disassembly - how to remove flange?

Tried to disassembly rear wheel today, did not manage to separate final drive flange from hub...

Do I need to remove bearing retainer & bearing? Looking at diagram, it should not be needed, or?

I'm trying to remove item pos 10

You need to remove number 3 which is a left hand thread  ;)

OK... but still dont understand how retainer holds flange to hub??
Need to make some tool for it..

It works like this and you need a special tool to rotate the ring clockwise [attachimg=1][attachimg=2]

I think he means the sprocket carrier from the wheel hub. It just pulls out it will be stuck on the drive rubbers.  Bolt your sprocket back on and pull on that.

Didn't think it was the same as 750,  and is retained by the screw retention ring on these.

Looks like the retainer screws into the wheel hub itself. So has to be removed.

What end , the sprocket carrier or the brake plate ?  ;)

Erny, remove the retaining ring with a tool ( left hand tread so, to undo, turn clockwise) Then bolt the sprocket back on and pull  ;)

They can be very tight and sometimes peened in place through the 4 holes.

I tried to strip my cb500 wheel down and remove this retainer - I even arc welded some 1" solid steel to the retainer, drilled the centre punch mark's out and wellied the other end of the 1" x 24" bar with a lump hammer - still wouldn't budge so I ground the welds back off and left it in tact as the bearings were ok - I just wanted to heat the hub in an oven to fit a new brake liner so heated it with a blow lamp instead. It can be a right swine to shift. Its just a good thing the wheel bearings last really well, even subjected to the loads of a sidecar full of luggage.

I ended up drilling my retainer ring and splitting it with a chisel it was so tight.
