looking to buy a new front mudguard for my CB550.
Looking at the DS website and there are genuine and replacement ones available.
Can any one advise which is the best option

Can't advise you which one to buy but, be careful of the terminology. Genuine may be Genuine Honda but that does not mean it is 'original' to that bike as fitted by Honda. I'm not saying it is in this case as I don't know but they could both be the same guard, from the same manufacturer but the Genuine one will be in Honda wrapping and the pattern one, wrapping with no Honda written on it. Also, not necessarily with this part but as yours is a USA model bike, check the listings carefully. Someone will be along soon to advise you.

Either is good and the genuine is £5 cheaper. Be aware it is a 750 part but Honda say it is the replacement part.
On the non caliper side i would fit two rubber bushes with top hat spacers for the 6mm bolts it should use.
Your bike should have fork gaiters not the little rubbers fitted at the moment. Give me a day and i will look up part numbers for you.

I think the US k0,1,2 did have 2 stay but need to check parts book.

This is my original USA K1

What you need to fit the later 750 guard, which is what Silver is selling is:-
6 of 40513-310-000 rubber
6 of 40514-310-000 collar
6 of 92000-06022 bolt, hex 6x22
2 of 92200-06025 bolt, hex 6x25 plus spring washers 94111-06000 if you want genuine ones
EDIT:-
According to the very early 550 US parts book i have the front mudguard(fender) for the 550 has a 341 middle number making it the same as the 750 K3(again according to a very early US parts book).
