Title: Cb350f photos
Post by: watty51 on August 28, 2019, 10:17:25 PM
Another one back on the road.
Thanks to the help from a lot of guys/girls of this site I have managed to finish rebuild of a Cb350f.
Thought you would like to see some photos.
The colour is from a MGR V8 called Woodcote green and it’s a good match.
Not sure whether to save up and get a new exhaust, but at nearly a grand I think these will do for now as  look pretty good and don’t look out of place.
All the chrome is original, along with the wheels, just needed a good clean, so it’s got some original features as well as some aftermarket items.
It’s got 400f handlebars as the original ones didn’t come with the bike and are a bit to high for my liking.
Clocks are original and have faded a bit but will keep them on.
It’s a nice comfortable bike to ride and very clickable around the lanes where I live.
Cheers

Really nice looking bike. I'm going to ruffle a few feathers here, but in my opinion the 350f is a nicer looking bike than the 400f :o :o

I agree wholeheartedly. I love the 4into4 look (although not in this case). Lovely bike there.

Ruffle a few feathers?!?  Who is going to tell you that you're wrong?  You even reminded us that it's your opinion...

As a CB350f owner there are no feathers ruffled here.

Great looking bike Sir

Really good looking bike.

I think the dilemma of original pipes is difficult as they are one of the best looking four pipe systems ever made,  so hard to resist.  ;D

Y'know, you choose the bike and style to satisfy yourself and not other people. Many moons ago when I was single, I bought a CB750 K2, using it for a lot of short runs to & from work meant that the silencers rotted out about 2 months after the warranty expired. Would have loved to replaced them with OE system, but even in those days, 1973, the cost was a bit too much for my pocket so it was a quick trip to Dresda Autos to purchase one of his newly introduced 4 into 1 systems. Far from perfect, blocked access to oil filter, had to modify rear footrest mounting, but boy oh boy did it sound good! When I bought my 2nd K2 in 1975, the same thing happened but within warranty so replaced with OE. House move then involved a 33 mile each way trip to work so no more probs and it did look right. It was then that a work colleague purchased a 400/4, I looked and thought it Oh Yes! A trip round the block confirmed my opinion. Had to wait until 1988/9 before I purchased the 400 which I still own. Due to health reasons I have not uncovered it since last November, so the possible exhaust nightmare is all too prevalent in the back of my mind. Just going off at a tangent, looking at the 4 into 2 system in these pics it would seem that pipes 1 and 2 enter the left silencer with 3 and 4 going to the right. If so, because each pair of pipes is receiving uneven exhaust pulses (cylinders being at 180 degs.) does the uneven back pressure affect the running or the sound? I must say it certainly looks neat and tidy.

Great looking bike and colour looks fantastic as does the exhaust, you've done a great job there.

That looks really nice.

I chose a Rover colour for mine too. BRG metallic.

For me the 350F is all about the 4 into 4 but the system you have on there certainly doesn't look out of place.

I’m in the very fortunate position to have both the 350 and 400 fours (two of the latter in fact) and have done quite a few miles on both bikes.  I prefer to go out on the 350 with higher bars and more forward footrests.  The bars are slightly wider too, sufficient to get a better view behind, without resorting to elbow tucking or body shifting.  For some strange reason, the mirrors don’t blur as bad on the 350.  The 5 speed box on the 350 feels more acceptable too.
The crowning glory in the eye of this beholder is that the 350 looks great from both sides whereas the left side of the 400 looks unfinished - only compensated for by that lovely bunch of chrome bananas.

By a strange coincidence the OP painted his 350 in Woodcote green from an MG RV8, a rare car of which I have a British Racing Green example - might be persuaded to sell that one!

How many silencers does it have?

Ha ha!
It has 4 silencers, one on each bank with a cat, then another, siamesed, then the last one inline with that with 2 tailpipes, but it still sounds like a healthy 3.9 V8!

Very nice car orcadian, and engine too.

I run one of those 3.9 in a 1991 Range Rover and they share much more in metallurgy terms with the Honda engines than is at first apparent.  All alloy with sleeved bores plus valve seat inserts. They use their oil in a very similar way too and thrive on shorter change intervals. And sound so good.
