Julie , they are set to 1, 3/4 turns , i have noticed that I don’t have to use much choke to start the bike from cold . I originally bought this set of reconditioned carbs from Gerben . Might try changing plugs and air filter.

Hi , did you manage to sort your problem , i have exactly the same problem , mine is bogging down when trying to set of when warm . The carbs were reconditioned a couple of months ago and all was fine . Started doing this a couple of months after . Stripped and cleaned carbs and slow running jets  again . Seams to be running rich i think . Would using a smaller slow running jet sort the problem or is there anything else that you guys would suggest . Bike runs fine and pulls great with no smoke , done a colour tune and carb balance.

Hi Guys , need to replace seals in leaking front brake master cylinder . Going to order a repair kit from DS , should i order genuine or aftermarket. Is it a straightforward job to replace seals etc.
Thanks

Hi Ricardo , i had a similar problem after getting my carbs back from being refurbished from Gerben in the Netherlands. Bought a set of balance gauges and balanced the carbs up , also check your valve clearances .
Mine runs sweet as a swiss watch.

Hi Guys , not posted on the 550 section of this forum before as I’ve got a 400 four , but a good friend of mine has had a reasonably good condition 78 CB550 that he acquired 2 years ago . He originally bought it for a restoration project but has never got round to it and is too busy to complete. I’ve had a quick took at it today and everything is intact and original except the colour and its got a four into one exhaust.
He asked me if there is any of you guys that recommend or would like to restore this bike for him . I think the engine is ok but the carbs may need attention . He would like a full restoration and I’ve told him he would be looking at 2 to 4Kto get this bike to original condition . Might be a good winter project for some cash for any of you 550 guys out there .

Thanks again guys , slowly getting to know about 400 fours , balanced my carbs yesterday and he’s 100% better on tickover and slow running . Went for a ride on the north Cornwall roads and couldn’t stop grinning especially having my first pillion passenger with me. Forgot how good these bikes must have been 40 years ago , have to get out of the habit of trying to get my knee down and remembering its not an R1 .

Thanks Julie , ill check the length later , I've had a look at the diagram and it looks like the cable goes in front and below the  bottom yoke , not the clearest view .

Hi All , wonder if anyone knows the correct length for the tacho cable on a 400 four . I have tried to root it correctly as per the assembly manual but it seems too short and will only allow me to root behind the bottom fork yoke and not in front as per manual , think the pervious owner might have fitted a non standard cable .
thanks for any help .

Thanks Julie, think i may order them as my bikes as good as i can get , so it would be a shame to spoil it in the big scheme of things .
