Title: Funny Smoke emissions...
Post by: Athame57 on January 09, 2020, 08:30:02 PM
The other day I noticed smoke coming from around the left side panel, at first I thought it was electrical like before (I renewed a load of stuff after that) but it really seems not the case. There was a lot of grease around the area of the breather box, that thing for recycling gases below the air box, could that be the culprit, is it normal? I have cleaned up the area with help from gunk by artists brush. I was rained off riding afterwards so I've yet to see results.

That might be oil smoke from the breather hose from the top of the engine that connects to the bottom of the air filter box. If it is it' could be a sign that all is not well in the engine. 🤔

Sounds like the engine breather.

There should be a breather tube which exits just below the front of the swinging arm. if the smoke is coming from behind the side panel then it may be that this tube has become disconnected or is missing.

I had a similar issue years ago with my first 400/4.  The breather tube running behind the swing arm was pinched and fumes could escape so they came out through the air filter box and side cover.  Check you breather tubes are all clear and the foam between the plates in the bottom of the air filter is not satuated with oil.
