Title: Speedometer resetting knob
Post by: Athame57 on July 02, 2023, 04:52:07 PM
I want to remove the Speedometer resetting knob if that is what one calls the thing you put your days mileage back to 0000 as I'm soon to paint the casing. However it won't just pull off, or at least I haven't managed to. Is it supposed to do that, I don't want to end up spraying the thing and it's grommet as well.

The knob is pushed onto a splined aluminium shaft. This shaft, in turn, screws onto the internal mechanism via a left handed thread. You maybe able to unscrew the shaft. One of my shafts was corroded badly and so I ended up making a new one. If not, I've applied a small amount of heat to the knob (hair dryer) and it has come off it's splines....

Thanks for this, I've had a try again to no avail. I think I'll just mask it off with lots of care, before I break something again!  ::)
