Hey thank you all for your encouragement, started stripping the motor, been standing for 37 years so seized solid, had to cut cam chain to get the cam out and the head off, filled bores with 50/50 ATF/Acetone, went around barrel with blow torch to gently warm till fluid started to heat up then left 24hrs, repeated this three times with persistent tapping of pistons with wooden drift and I won !. barrel is now off and ready for glaze busting.
I am going to source valve guide seals, gaskets, one short head stud and copper washer for now.
I will clean the carbs in my ultrasonic cleaner and clean off the decades of crud from everything else, the chromework is toast.
I will also be looking for an exhaust as this was the only item missing from the bike.
I will keep you all posted.
cheers peeps.

CB350/400 / Clutch

My next question concerns interchangeability of parts between the 1975 400f four super sport and other Hondas, like the clutch for example, I need a friction plate and they are £50 or so for a set ! excuse me ! now I know that bits for these old bikes can be expensive but this is a bit strong, perhaps you good people can set me straight on this.
Many years ago I set up and ran a motorcycle breakers with a school friend " Bike Busters " at Wotton Rivers near Pewsey in Wiltshire, but that was quite some time ago now, anyway alot of stuff was cheaper then.
Cheers all.

Hey ,
thanks you guys, what a lovely bunch you all are, very kind and helpful.
I really appreciate your comments, I will probably machine down a hex socket and tack a washer on the end .
Thanks again for taking the effort to help.
Cheers.

CB350/400 / locking petrol cap
« on: October 20, 2023, 04:47:36 PM »
Hello Peeps,
I am looking for help with finding a key for my 1975 cb400f super sport petrol cap, it looks like it would be some kind of hollow hex key, the tank is standard and the lock looks like a standard fitmentbut no one seems familiar with it, not even David Silver ? !
Can any of you guys shed any light on this please ?
Cheers everybody.
Steve.
PS. I will post some pics if needed.

Hi peeps,
I am a lifelong biker and have just bought a crusty old 1975 cb400f super sport, my first step is to give it a good clean and then see if I can get a tune out of it with a view to riding it over the winter.
It does have an unusual locking petrol cap mechanism that needs some kind of hollow hex key to operate, David Silver was not able to shed any light on it, I was wondering if any of you guys knew about such a thing, it is a standard tank and all looks standard ?
Cheers all.
