I know about the the thread being a left hand one on the rear wheel bearing retainer - is there any staking as well or is the LH thread all it needs to stay in place?

I have seen both with and without over the years Ted, usualy obvious if there and frequently heat will help

To my surprise it came undone with the lightest tap of my big rubber mallet - sprocket carrier out too. ;D ;D ;D

Check the look of the bearings Ted it may have had new ones as i did a few at the same time!

Check the condition of the hub where the bearing sits on that side Ted. The machined part that sticks out. Also the corresponding part on the sprocket carrier, they should be well greased when putting them back together but most people don't and they wear oval over the years. There should be 4 grooves cut into the carrier surface, these should also be visible and consistent across the surface.

Thanks Guys I will check both the bearings & the hub carefully before it is powder coated when the wheels are built at CWS.
