Title: Ignition keys
Post by: corromant on July 07, 2015, 03:35:45 PM
Does anyone know if period keys can be obtained & where from. It would be nice to have a spare.

Thanks

Conrad

The original key is a T key and if you have the number they can be found in the states. If you just want a non original key, many places will cut by the number.

For non original keys I have used this guy many times >>http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-MOTORCYCLE-KEYS-CUT-TO-YOUR-CODE-NON-TRANSPONDER-TYPES-PLEASE-ENQUIRE-/281030401159?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item416eb79c87

Just received a spare key for my 400/4 which I ordered having seen Trigger's post.
Just the job, works perfectly.
As the guy says in the listing, better to cut to code than to copy a worn or damaged key.
Just wish I could get a steering lock key now, but even the information that came with the bike from new only has the ignition key code.

Mine have arrived this morning, spot on. Very helpful guy, had to send a photo of one of the keys before he confirmed he could cut it. Both keys work fine.

Thanks Trigger

I'm not sure these are available. You have to get a new lock and drill out the old one. Simple enough to do though: http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php/topic,4947.0.html

Thanks Tom, that doesn't look too tricky.
Guess I should probably start by ordering a new lock then!

You can't buy keys for Neiman locks you have to drill it out after carefully removing the rivet and washer for reuse. Dont go berserk with the drill there is a spring on the end of the lock that comes seperate

Steering locks can be cheap from Frank>>> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-CB-250-350-400-450-500-550-750-Four-Lenkschlos-Lenkradschlos-steering-lock-/131543167059

They are, but he doesn't do PayPal and I've never heard of the options he does take (IBAN or BIC).
Maybe that's because I'm not a seasoned overseas buyer!
I have ordered from here:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Handlebar-Lock-Lenkschlos-Steering-Lock-Steering-Lock-For-Honda-Kawasaki-/231388905798?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item35dfda8146
A bit more than Frank but still much cheaper than DS and the like.

I have looked at the listing again and you're right, he does. He just says it is not his preferred method of payment due to charges.
It seemed strange, I thought if you deal on eBay then PayPal is pretty much obligatory, as a seller you factor charges in to your prices.
Still suspect many people will have no idea what IBAN and BIC are though.
You live and learn!

An IBAN is an International Bank Account Number. You have to bank transfer directly to that account. Bit risky online if you ask me. No protection whatsoever.

PayPal sounds the way to go then.
Sellers who make the buying process more difficult don't get my custom I'm afraid.

That's better than when I got one. Mine came with the L shaped keys as in the picture.

I think it's as simple as removing that cowl covering the lights and the number is on the side of the barrel.

New lock arrived today. One week from Germany, not sure if that is good or bad but it got here.
Out with the B&D to drill the old lock, fitted quite easily so all sorted.
The eBay listing I bought from offered 'A guide with photo' on request, so I requested - a bit more guidance couldn't go amiss.
Not sure that it added much, and I don't think I would recommend risking using one of the new keys to help remove the old lock!
So this is what you do ....
