Thought it had gone but looking again.
I have trouble getting the wheel off as the pads are tight against the disk.
stripped the calliper to find that the piston is v pitted and will not go back in with out a lot of effot.
plus one of the last owners must wear spurs as the bleed nipple has had the thread stripped so he/she rammed a 12mm bolt in.

now need a new piston + seal and a new outer half of the calliper.

Hi,
Thanks for all the advice but in the end Bryanj was spot on, front bearings were totally shot.
nice new ones in and smooth as a smooth thing.

One thing though there was no bearing retainer is this dangerous? if so where do I get one from?

CB750 / Re: Is this a K6 fuel tank?
« on: July 09, 2012, 09:08:03 PM »
WOW 1400 euro s
I am having problems with the old tank. When you go on to reserve the fuel drains through next to one of the screws that hold the tap in place. this small area clogs with bits and starves the carbs. I have cleaned the tank but as it is a bit rusty these bit s still keep coming not much but enough to block the reserve. with the correct tank / tap it has a full length filter.

I have removed the small filter in the tap bowl. and run a in line filter to keep bits from the carbs.

I will keep looking for a reasonably priced second hand one and keep the tank on the full side.

fingers crossed I find one.

HI,
when looking to order a new petrol tap the only one I can find is not the one on my tank. This leads me to think is not a K6 tank.

two screws to hold to the tank.

compared to the bolt on one below I have been told is the correct K6 tap

Confused ???

CB750 / front wheel locking
« on: July 07, 2012, 06:37:55 PM »
Hi,
when I push the bike back and turn the bars to one side the wheel binds, doesn't matter which way I turn same thing. Straight line OK. Jack the front wheel off the ground and wheel is free going backwards lock to lock. only when the weight is on it does this happen.
any ideas?

CB750 / BURBLE i THINK
« on: July 06, 2012, 07:41:47 PM »
Hi,
Took the 750 for its MOT today and failed on no split pin in rear brake arm and old numberplate was a:to small and b: no British Standard number. so all jobs will be done by tomorrow.

On the way there and back when ever I sat at lights or in stationary traffic every 6-10 seconds I heard a noise from around the air box like a small back fire (or burble). at first I thought there was a bike behind me making the odd rev noise.  I was told the bike has only done 3k since 1993.

Any ideas?

Hi to all,
I live in Gloucester and over the coming months I hope to upload some pictures of my latest projects.

My short list of projects I would like to do is as follows.

Honda 250 G5  (I had one in 1975)
Honda CB750 K? (my foreman at work had a brnd new one in 1976)
Triumph (any 50s model)
Vespa or Lambretta  (done)
BSA C15 250 (had one in 1974)

Raleigh Chopper (in Orange) (had a MK1 1969-70).

I have just finished a 1955 Lambretta LD150 and sold it. Out of the money I got two....yes two CB250 G5s and a 1976 K6 CB750.

The plan is to MOT and ride the 750 while renovating the G5 then ride the 250 while restoring the 750.

Please be aware of this company.  Citypowdercoaters in Birmingham. After taking a day off work I travelled up from Reading had a quote of £80 to powder coat my CB 250 frame, swing arm, centre stand and side stand.  The price I thought was good. For this they said they would sand blast and dip in a rust treatment and powder coat gloss black. This would take 7 to 10 days.

I rang the number on the web site and it rang ,,,,and rang I tried up to 30 times a day for the next 5 days. Finally got through and was told that the frame was out being dipped and had already been blasted. For the next two weeks I rang and rang again up to 20 times a day. Ran them today ( over 4 weeks later) and they said they were v busy with wheels so I said I would drive the 300 miles round trip and collect it. When I got there the frame was where I had left it 30 days ago, no blasting no rust treatment. Just lies. When I talked to the manager his attitude was poor to say the least.
If you want wheels done they MAY be the people, but as for bike frames  they are not.
