I had one of those John back in 1980. It had been painted black with a nose fairing so at least it looked fast! The guy who owned it was actually an undertaker so maybe he had a job lot of black paint!  It was a nice bike apart from the front cable operated disc brake.  I was slowing down one day in heavy traffic when it locked on (I think the release ratchet broke in the caliper). It sent me over the handlebars!
I used to like the green metallic ones.

We had a green one, we re-sprayed it blue. Come to that I had my 500, candy garnet brown and re-sprayed that blue. Liked the CB175s, but never took to the 200. The cam seized and never really found out why. Looked spotless inside engine.
Don't like blue bikes now.  ???

I had a green one when I was 17 , the clutch slipped, it was before I had any mechanical knowledge, or money, so I rode it for a year with a slipping clutch 🙂, I was talking to someone a couple of weeks ago he’d got a nicely restored red one, he said he was sure the one he had in the 70’s was twice as fast! 😄, what do they do 70mph ?

EDIT
80+ evidently, just found this , scroll down past the spec to find a really good article from cycle magazine 1974.

just been looking around, and for some reason the PO dismantled the seat lock plunger ,
the one that is rubber mounted on the seat and pushes down into the lock, and the 2 rubber bushes and metal tubular spacers are missing

  part mumbers 772 283 40000  bushes
                        772 293 40000 metal spacers

  both 2 off ,

obviously I can get them from CMS nl ,but if anyone has a couple spare, please let me know https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb200-england_model16413/partslist/F05.html#.WzzbgdJKjIV

Looks to be a sweet 200, have seen very good mudguards on ebay some time ago. I think DK broke some they shipped from the states.

Nice little collection starting there John.
I think for wheels probably more economic to replace wheels and spokes for new rather than re-chrome.
Mudguards harder to source so re-chrome.
Just my opinion.

quick mention of the help I had from Tri and Nursie ,,

  the 27 x 2.5 mm O rings fitter perfectly.

but,my Cruzimage carb kits ,the bowl joint seal is not very good, one touch of petrol, and it swells and becomes oversize so it doesn't fit.

 guessing its ethanol ,

will have to reuse the old ones

The Cruzinimage kits are good John but we always upgrade all the O rings to Viton. This stops the problems you are encountering.

£330 + VAT sounds over the top per guard to me. I'll ask the fella I have used in the past what he would charge. When I was there last week I saw some of their work and it was 'top notch', I'll be seeing him early next week and I'll ask what he would charge. I know he likes a bit of the 'folding stuff' so that might reduce the cost.

Looking really good John.

My friend had one years ago.  He had tried inexpertly to service his bike and, on his way to see his girlfriend, called in to see me saying it wasn't going quite as well as it had before.  Upon inspection, it became evident there was no compression in the right cylinder.  We set to work straight away, literally burning our hands taking out the engine.  Quickly, we discovered he had advanced the ignition so much the piston had holed.  After a quick trip to the local Honda dealer, he came back with a new piston and set of rings etc. and within a very short space of time I reassembled the engine, set the timing correctly, and by the time we put the engine back in the frame it was still warm and he was able to resume his journey.

And there was I thinking I might have a go at servicing my bike. If it’s that easy to mess it up, think I might get somebody who knows what they’re doing when the time comes.   :)

I'm sure you will be fine, my friend was terrible, shouldn't have been allowed near spanners...

the ignition is easy to set, only one set of points for both pots,

a little messy as the LH side plate is ope to engine oil,

just set the spark at the T mark, and its done

Shouldn't be engine oil in there, there should be an oil seal in the cam carrier bearing.

Yes Hairy but you have to remove the generator cover fot the marks and there is oil in there!

I think static timing is perfectly fine for these, my friend had done something weird, he probably didn't realise there were timing marks, he was not very mechanically minded.

I was talking about generator cover.
That has the timing marks.
Although. I have never noticed any  on the advance mech.

Looking very good.  I think my friend's bike had the front wheel from the 175 which was a TLS, a popular modification at the time.  I think the 175 carbs go on too which are slightly bigger.

Well. It's almost finished.

Did you get the seat rubber and panel rubbers sorted ? I must have some somewhere but, not sure if they will fit a CB200.

Yes ta.

Mr Sliver. I also needed a new fuel tap.as the brass tube was snapped off.and it leaked like a sieve.

About £60 in his coffers

All legal.
First run.out to Hay on Wye.

Sweet motor. Light bit of clutch slip.
Wooden front disc.
But a very nice ride (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190712/085635842e7e3a79cf6cd19456b338a9.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190712/c75f25a1bf66364ee1738f36155aeede.jpg)

Looking good John, nice to see it back on the road.
My old CB200 had a wooden disc but it was still a 100% improvement over the Matchless 250CSR I had before it!
