..at least for now. Not a restoration, more of a tidy up. I still need to do something with the seat, I am making a stencil for the back to put a Honda logo on it but for now it's done and no more oil leaks (I hope).

Sorry if I have "over-pictured" the thread but I thought I might as well make the most of the post, as it were.

Sorry about the pictures, don't know what's happened there, they look a bit odd. ???
-
Always nice to see plenty of pictures, gives some of us the inspiration we need to get on with our own, great job you've made of it, get out and enjoy it now! ;D
-
Thank you for that.
If it stops raining long enough I will take it for a spin. I had forgotten what they are like to ride and I am learning to look and think a long way ahead so I can slow down a bit (or brake as it is sometimes known).
Good fun though and as soon as you get going they suddenly become normal to ride, great fun. :)
-
very nice job, i hope mine will be as nice. enjoy the ride.

Love the Aug 72 tax disk.
I'm sitting here looking at my Dec 72 tax disk that I bought during the winter. All I need now is a decent tax disk holder to put it in!
-
Fabulous looking bike, you must be well pleased with it

I just got printed the tax disc from a Google image and got a tax disc holder for about £2 through eBay.

Thanks Pete, I am rather pleased with it now.

Ahhh...
I had mine made by the vintage tax disk people:
[attachimg=1]
It comes slightly "distressed" and with the correct details and price (but you have to pay for it)

It comes slightly "distressed"
I know how it feels. ::)

The bike looks great reminds me of my old bike, really enjoyed that one.

Thanks Dennis.
Unfortunately the oil nightmare continues.
It seems that as soon as I stop one leak it starts somewhere else.
This time it is oozing oil out of the lower part of the barrel between two and three. Someone has glued a piece of rubber block in the hole which I totally missed when cleaning up the engine, I didn't take the barrels off as the leakdown test I did only showed leaking exhaust valves so I only took the head off and re-lapped the valves and replaced the stem seals.
I am assuming that the cam-chain has worn through the barrels at some stage and Mr. Bodge has come to the rescue!!!!
I am lucky in that a friend of mine has a spare set of barrels and pistons in good order that he has given me, DS want £1800 for a new set.
Oh well, this engine out malarkey is a breeze now, I am becoming an expert. A pity I am not an expert in spotting all these pitfalls BEFORE building the thing and sticking "I've finished" pictures all over the web. :-[

Aye, sod's law strikes again

Thanks for all the encouragement, it's difficult to stay enthused sometimes.
What makes it worse is that there is an empty skip next door that I keep looking at!!! :-\
-
i know. i'm in it, waiting...
-
After completing the engine rebuild on my 400four, I put the wrong bottom engine mounting bolts in. One is 2mm shorter so it doesn't punch a hole through to the oil gallery.
just as well there were no empty skips handy.
-
And I'm peed off because I have to do my carbs yet again, not sure what I'd do if the engine had to come out again. Take a short break then come back to it fresh. You can thank Honda's designers for the engine having to come outyet again. Keep at it though you'll get there in the end. Good luck. :(

Geez that's funny. ;D ;D ;D

Aye, sod's law strikes again
What a pain, but it will be worth it in the end, at least it should not take too long as you have the technique fresh in your mind, just think of all those miles you can enjoy after it's finished
Cheers

Just beware regarding the old tax disc. A few people have been done by the bobbies for displaying an out of date disc. Even though we are electronic now.
-
Bike looks great 8)
You wont find a disk on my bikes they soon came off.
There is an out of date disk in my truck I was pulled by VOSA not to long ago and they never mentioned it.

They would have to be a right jobsworth to bother with that, it's not as if I forgot to re-tax it 42 years ago.
-
The cops are over reaching with that one, the offence was never Displaying an out of date tax disc but rather Failing to display a current road fund licence.
They're just being overly annoying. That so called offence would be laughed out of court.
-
I think that's probably an urban myth. Do you have any actual evidence that this happened?
I have a family member who is a copper in S London. She laughed when I suggested that they'd pull someone for displaying a 1972 tax disc.
