Title: points cover gasket adhesive
Post by: mattsz on August 03, 2020, 02:29:38 PM
My points cover gasket is no good.  I have a replacement, the same thin cork ring as original.  It definitely needs to be secured in place... any specific adhesives to use or avoid in this application?

You don't need to use any adhesive of any type Matt.

Ah, well the old knackered one is glued in, so I just assumed.  Plus, my new one is an NOS gasket that has taken a slightly out-of-round shape and won't stay in place when I try to close up the cover...

Because the gasket doesn't have any screw locating tabs and it wouldn't stay put I binned it and put a thin bead of black RTV silicon around the edge of the cover.

Well, it's academic - the gasket doesn't fit regardless.  It's presumably NOS genuine Honda cork - I don't know if it shrinks over time, but its diameter is not really even close to being large enough to seal the cover.

I'm working on a refund - I think I'll just make my own...
