CB650 / Can 650 clutch
« on: September 23, 2018, 03:52:05 PM »
Need some help. The four clutch springs. I’ve rebuilt the clutch and I can’t seem to find any torque setting for doing the springs up.
Am I right in thinking you tighten them up so the are compressed and the  release plate is therefore touching the pressure plate.

Project Board / CB650 bought in buckets
« on: September 14, 2018, 05:32:06 PM »
So after much searching and praying, a 'doer uper' was found locally for very little money.
With little to no history, and collected in buckets and washing up bowls, just enough to fill the back of a car, this 1981 CB 650 has become my obsession.
As I understand, a not very popular bike, especially here in the UK, this 32500 mile model had been taken apart over 12 years ago. Slowly over the summer I have now built the engine up to as shown in the pictures. Finding parts has been a real struggle, as the crankcases were split, the bolts all over the place.
I have used various reference sources, Haynes and a genuine Honda Workshop Manual, the internet has been invaluable, not sure how we coped before hand.
As you can see the frame is mostly there, electrics are missing, a job for later in the year as funds allow.
I don't intend to, and I apologise to the purists, to put back to stock. i am thinking that this middle aged frame of mine will sit nicely on a slim framed, wide engined cafe racer. Might seem a bit 'en mode' but thats how I see it happening at present.
I'll post some more pics as it develops.
I bought this as a hobby, something to ease my m ind after a day at work. However its become an obsession, with every waking hour contemplating where I might find parts and pieces. So not really as intended.
I'm hoping to have it running by summer 19 as I would like to ride it on our local charity bike ride the 'Martin Jennings ride'.

CB650 / CB650 bought in buckets
« on: September 13, 2018, 12:32:19 PM »
Hi
I have bought a 1981 CB 650, UK model. Been in someones lockup in old washing up bowls and buckets for 12 years. Last MOT online was 14 years ago. Mileage 32500 miles. Said to be 80% complete. Not sure why taken apart and crankcase split open, some wet oil in exhaust of cylinder 4, otherwise no clue.
There is lots of obvious parts missing, like a loom, stator and many other smaller parts. I am having some real issues locating some parts, either new of second hand. Have had some parts for the USA and Japan so far. I get the impression that this bike is too old but too unloved that the breakers don't acknowledge they have any bits.
I have a Haynes manual and by lucky chance a Honda workshop manual. I am using the internet as a source for parts and a parts catalogue.
Is there anyone out there who has some parts? I have 3 extra Cam Chain tensioners, so happy to swap or sell, is there a 'shop' on this forum for buying and selling.
get in touch if you think you can help me, I'm not expert by any means, a real novice, just dedicated to follow a step by step guide to rebuilding it.
Any help gratefully received.

Simon
