Hi all, I'm just in the final stage of the 500k2 build and just short of a few bits. Has anyone got the following parts to sell me? I need - 4 x airbox rubbers to carb clamps - air filter retainer spring/clip Also, either I need an earth lead/strap or dimensions to make one. And were does the lead bolt to on the frame and its route to the battery. The clamps and air filter spring are available from DS but will cost about 50 odd squid posted so am happy tp refurb SH parts as I have done with other parts (inc the head to carb clamps) The annoying thing is I'm sure I must have had the earth lead and air filter spring but for the life of me, I can't find them! (too many boxes of spare parts in my shed!) Thanks in anticipation

I will have barrels fitted to the 500 by next weekend (awaiting piston clamps) and know from reading previous posts over the years that engine can go in without head, then fit head whilst engine in the frame. I'm not too bothered about the weight issue so what the pro's and cons of fitting head when engine in frame? - i.e. frame in the way making certain bolts, etc awkwards to fit. Took the engine out complete and only used to fitting 750 engine - were you can only fit complete

Just tidying the garage and found this about 6 foot away from bench that I stripped 500 engine. I don't recognise it as anything I stripped but now worrying that it's something that 'flicked' out and didn't notice. Anyone recognise it from the 500 engine? Could be from anything that I've worked on before but worth a check prior to building engine back up. It's 6mm x 10.5mm. Cheers Sent from my moto g(7) power using Tapatalk

One for the Metallurgists out there! I'm just about to re-zinc the cylinder head nuts ready for engine reassembly. I have some Stainless Steel A2 DIN 6923 non serrated flange nuts and was wondering as to whether these would be suitable for the stress' put on these head nuts - I don't know the standard nuts tensile properties to be able to research a comparison table. I don't want to fit the SS nut if the threads 'give' a little and affect the head seating Whats your thoughts? (its bloody cold in the garage to be in there zinc plating!)

Can anyone tell me what size the oil galery 'blanking Bung' O'ring is? (part number 91319300000) - CMSL lists it just as O'ring without stating size (as it does with some other o'rings)

I know it's been covered several times before but what's your views on this method of curing - I'm using the forum recommended Simoniz Silver which requires upto 220 degree curing. Don't want the fumes in kitchen and upper crankcase won't fit in oven anyway. Pinched an idea off tinternet and built a 1/4 ply box lined with tinfoil, fitted with cheap oven thermostat and powered by an electric heat gun. Just done quick test and temp gets upto about 160 degrees within 10 minutes and maintains that temp. Do you think this is sufficient to cure the paint. I intend to heat painted parts initially in kitchen oven to get some heat in the parts. See pics for basic idea of technique. What's your thoughts Sent from my moto g(7) power using Tapatalk

I contacted CMSL a few days ago to ask if they would charge EU VAT in light of being charged it when goods arrive in UK - for everyones interest, see reply below
Dear Phil, Sorry for the delay in responding. We have set up our account that you pay the VAT to us and we will declare it in the UK. So you pay the VAT to us and you don't have to pay this to the customs/UPS. Additional charges are 2% import duties, as our good aren't from the EU and a fixed 11,50 GBP for custom fee. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Kind regards, Gert

Looking for reassurance! I know about how hard it is to find the numbers on the crankacases but need to put my mind at rest before spending £250 on mains/big end shells. Have done this a few times on 750's but doubting my eyes when trying to see letters on my 500 crankcases. Seen a thread recently but can I find it now! Am I right in thinking the letters do not look identical from crank web to crank web? They look as though they have been written by a child? I can see 'B's' - but my wife cant see any letters - wife say they just look like part of the general marks on the cases. Marks on crank and rods look like they have been printed and are consistant and easily read Do they look like I've described or am I seeing things? I've got all B's on cases and 4 x 2's and a 1 on crank - does that sound about right Thanks

Having completed all the rolling chassis/electrics/carbs build on my 500K2 build, I only have the engine to rebuild now. Although the bike has only done about 12,000 (on the clock anyway) and engine oil like new (its an American import so will have been lying around for years no doubt), I intend to complete a full strip and rebuild. As routine I will replace the primary chain/cush drive, oil pump refurb, camchain and tensioner/etc and whatever else is needed with regard to mains/big ends/piston/rings/rebore/clutch/etc. I've built four 750's over the last half a dozen years and so am ok with the strip/rebuild in general but is there anything particular that I need to be aware of that is particular to the 500 engine? Also, I seem to remember reading on the forum over the years that the primary chain is common to the z650 (?) and can be cheaper if you buy via that route, is that right and can anyone recommend a source Thanks in advance Phil

Having stripped the carbs to a million parts for cleaning and zincing, I'm going to reassemble them tomorrow. What's the needle clip position for standard set up be? (standard airbox/exhausts). Thanks
