CB350/400 / Rear brake rod adjuster
« on: January 27, 2023, 04:52:57 PM »
Have just fitted new rear brake shoes to my bike but when adjusting the brake rod adjuster I can only get  three or four revolutions on the adjuster before the brake starts binding on. Do you think that will be enough revolutions? Ie, no chance of the adjuster pinging off as I apply the brake?

I used Villiers as recommended by Julie and they made a very nice job of the shoes.

Many thanks both, same thought about the modern one. I was looking to have it for a short tour in France with pals on modern bikes, but may look to hire or borrow!

If you want to hire i can recommend these guys in Woking. Road Trip Motorcycle Hire and Tours.
Hired a Bonneville from them last year for my 60th birthday, the bike was immaculate and they have a great selection of bikes from 125 cc to large BMW’s. Not cheap but very nice bikes.

Thanks Sesman. I use Super unleaded and my tank has a lining put in by the PO, not sure if that will make any difference. Maybe I’ll put it off for another year.

Afternoon. Just wondering how often the filter in the petrol tank needs cleaning? Mines been in there for 2 seasons now( 4,000 miles). Think the manual says every 3,000 miles but does it need doing that often or is that overkill?  Thanks.

Hi K2-K6. I can see what you are saying, the last thing I want to do is mess up the sprocket. ( I’m not the most competent mechanic!). Just had a look at the sprocket and it appears the rivets go right through the sprocket.

Thanks Lobo, it should be fun. Mind you I have enough trouble hanging  a picture straight let alone tapping a hole straight!

Thanks for your advice. I shall probably leave it till the winter when I have the bike off the road and look at it then. Cheers.

Thanks for your replies guys. I’ve never tapped bolts before, is it reasonably easy to do?

Hi Matt,
Thanks for your offer of looking after my sprocket guard 🙂 but I’m quite keen to put it back on. I’ll probably wait till I take the bike of the road for the winter and drill them out and put new ones in. ( although that’s probably rather ambitious for my level of mechanical skills! )

CB350/400 / Chain guard on rear sprocket
« on: October 02, 2022, 09:35:25 AM »
Morning. On my rear sprocket the chain guard is becoming quite loose due I think to the holes around the rivets getting larger. It’s becoming quite noisy and I’m a bit concerned about it falling off and jamming in the wheel.
Any suggestions what to do with it? Is it a case of drilling the old rivets out and taking it off? Any ides would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
