Mine was noisy on my 400/4 last year but my bike has been in my garage all winter not going anywhere but since I’ve started using it again this year it doesn’t make a noise. Very strange.

Thought I would update this post. After having new valve stem seals and rings fitted it seems to of cured the high oil consumption I was experiencing. Have done 300 miles since the work was done with no oil loss, before the work it was burning about 1/2 a litre every 200 miles. So thanks to everyone’s advice.

Thanks Julie. Just seemed a bit strange scrunched up but if yours is the same then that’s good enough for me. 😀

CB350/400 / Routing of no:3 HT lead.

Morning. I am wondering how the no:3 HT lead is supposed to be routed on my 400/4 as mine is rather scrunched up because of where the horn is. It goes behind the horn and doesn’t look quite right to me.

I hope you've gone for a socially distanced blast down the Queen's Highway in this ideal riding weather.
Not gone for a decent blast yet but hope to put that right very soon.

I’m very pleased with it Julie. I gave up on the Brit Euro silencer as it seemed to be always out of stock. Am pleased with the Marving one, fitted easily and sounds about the same noise wise.

Today got my 400/4 back on the road. New paint by Menno, new rings and valve stem seals and a nice new silencer made by Marving.

Project Board / Re: 1978 CB550 K3 "running" restoration

Your forks look good SPR. What did you use to clean them up. Mine look like the before pictures.

Tried various approaches but the best was long strips of wet and dry 240 grit and then 400 / 600

Used a dremel with small hard polishing cone to start getting a finish then when I'd destroyed my supply went to autosol and fine grade wire wool

They aren't bad and will fit in with the rest of the bike when done as a "survivor" rather than a restoration as I intend to use it without worrying too much :)

Thanks

Simon

Thanks Simon will give it a try.

I know Menno has been recommended lots of times but I have just received my tank and panels back from  Menno after having them re-sprayed and they look fantastic!
Not only is his work great but his communication is spot on as well.
Would very much recommend his work.

My 400/4 speedo seems very accurate. It gets checked every time I ride past the speed cameras on the Perimeter road on the way to work at Heathrow but then my clocks were refurbished by Kent400 of this forum.

Thanks Oddjob. It’s amazing how many companies there are on the internet making bits and pieces for these old bikes. As you say the last one looks very good value. Bryanj also pointed that one out to me.
