CB500/550 / Re: Number 1 cylinder not firing compression issue
« on: August 03, 2022, 06:19:43 PM »
To me this suggests the pilot circuit is suffering a blockage and needs to be looked at, the soot on the plug is not unusual in this situation, before you remove head check everything else again, compression reading is not too bad considering that cylinder is not up to temperature.

When new the wiring in the headlamp is in a ring shape around the bowl, this way the lens and bulb holder just go in the hole.

It's an unpleasant game to be in, i was the chemist on a plating line and even with prices going up due to regs, health and safety, disposal of by products and associated waste it's still worth every penny.

Considering the process time will be about the same, yes it's a fair price.

CB500/550 / Re: how to clean valves properly
« on: January 10, 2022, 08:24:04 PM »
Hope someone can teach me on this. Is it true that some valves are special and are not supposed to be lapped and if you do, you will do more harm than good? Second question: what is it precisely, that causes valves to wear?

Additional question to this, what would make the valves special (do I have them?  ::) )

Generally nothing as long as the seating area is in spec, seats can be two or three angle.

I have used Boyer's on a fair few bikes and never had any problems, these are electronic ignitions, you could also opt for a Dyna-s which is an electronic trigger and retains the original advancer i have used these with no problems also, but as with all bikes your charging system and batteries have to be well maintained or you will run into problems.

Can hear the clutch basket rattling,  as well as a loud metallic  tick, carbs balancing would probably benefit the motor, if you are in an enclosed space it will sound worse.

I quite like mine and it will keep up with traffic fine. Just wring its neck a little and it will top 90 .  ;)
Don't get me wrong there were times i would wring out almost a ton out of the little beggar, on private roads of course and they do sing nicely. :)
