Post by: Johnwebley on July 13, 2019, 05:20:05 PM
DS is having a party.

Saturday 28th September.

Wants all sohc 4s.

Anyone fancy a ride out?
I might book a couple of nights, b&b

I intend to be there providing that it doesn't conflict with our (yet to be booked) September holiday. It's not too far for me, so a day trip only!

In my diary.

Will probably be in the car though as it’s too close to the mother-in-law’s and MrsD will insist on spending the weekend in Woodbridge.

That's us out then as Trig would only want us to go on a pair of CD250u's . Although they are SOHC but just not enough cylinders 😀😀😀😀

But they are sohc Hondas.

So they qualify.
And if you both come. You have 4 cylinders

Surely Massey Davidsons aren't road legal.  I can hear the bloody things a mile away.   There's one up the road, he leaves for work at 7:00 and wakes the whole estate up.  If I take my pipes off it isn't that loud.

I was considering this so I looked at a map having never heard of Leiston, which I feel bad about.  It is rather a long way for me, over 300 miles and London roads in the way and I really don't like motorways on the bike.  Shame they can't have it in Cornwall or Wales.

Looks like it will be fun.

Are there other events where lots of sohcs gather?  I've only seen one other 500/4 in the last 25 years.

BTW, don't be rude about Ferguson Tractors, fine machines and the first tractor with three point hydraulic system  ;D

I have a pass for the day!

Means I have to drive to Woodbridge and stay with the mother-in-law but hey…

I will find a badge to wear so that you can look me up. I’ve got some old SOHC4 patches somewhere

Can I suggest we put something on our shirt/T shirt/blouse  :D to identify ourselves ... how about a little bit of insulating tape or masking tape? Or any other suggestions?  I missed a few people I wanted to meet last year.

Just doing a quick check and wash.

Found a split in L/H fork gaiter
Damn annoying.

Replacements ordered. But doubt I will have time to fit before friday.

So ignore the split. And look at all the other bikes

Thanks. Found 4 splits. Each at edges.

Feels very fragile. But now stuck together.

This has only lasted about 30yrs.

Just got back from the meal. I did my best to eat into Mr Silver's profits.
Main course. Pud.and several drinks.

I sat with Neil Tuxworth.and several of the judges. It was enlightening to hear them chat about the bike industry. Racing etc.

I hope you all have a good time.
Unfortunately I am unable to attend as planned.
I finally got the engine started on the 400/4 yesterday only for it to run really roughly and the carbs leaking. I stripped the carbs again today and cleaned them twice each (that's four times in total!) in the ultrasonic cleaner. I reassembled them and completed a bench sync.  I put them back on the bike and it now runs really well (in the confines of my garage, it was pouring down outside!) and I've not even balanced them with the gauges so a real result 👍. This was at 7:30 this evening. I will have to MOT it in the morning but to be honest I don't fancy riding it to Leiston and back in a day considering it hasn't been started in 17 years, it needs a shorter shakedown run first.
Have a great time, Mr Silver may have some sohc bargains😊.

I wondered why anyone would pay more than £20 for a pile of rusty bits.

Really good day out,  and to meet quite a few more forum members too.

When I left I saw John sneaking off toward the coast so turned back and followed out to Aldeburgh for a walk along the front (on the basis that there's usually good pie and beer in the offing if John's heading that way  ;D) anyway, very nice place on the coast for a walk in evening sunlight.  Got called by my son while "road testing" a particularly good bag of chips,  oh the guilt of being found out at the seaside when my initial application of family leave was issued on the basis of spending a day loitering in an industrial estate  ;D

Well worth the day out with so many great bikes to see.

Great photo
And good photo.
But doesn't show the humour.

Saturday night I walked into town. Purely by chance I met a couple from the bike show.and we went to Cinnamon Indian restaurant.
Very good service. Food and not expensive.

Got home about 3pm today. Not to affected by the weather. But got  rained on twice. At Cambridge and Worcester.
492 miles door to door.
Any volunteers to clean the CB??(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190929/6a530da0602340f6ad52d901135ad0a4.jpg)

Cheers

Great to meet you all, and it's good to see these old bikes being used as they were intended, 492 miles is a good run out, That's more than I've done all year on my 400. Note to self I must get out more.

I agree it’s great to see these old machines being used as they were intended still, also nice to see the “showroom condition “ ones too.I’ve put 1350 miles on my 750F since buying her and done nowt to her but oil change and fuel. Will give her a tidy up during winter months.
Wish I’d got there earlier to meet some of the forum members, have I possibly spoken to  you at Jacks Hill cafe Greg65 on a Gold K2? Near neighbours to you and Windycorner ;D

The fine camera operator was "Mrs Corner" of windycorner  ;D using Mr Oggie's camera Steve.

I really had a good time at both this and Crich this year,  couple of days nattering about these old bikes with decent people,  happy days.

Well Ash looks nothing like I expected him too, with all his knowledge I expected a white lab coat and specs (and a slight crouch if I'm honest)  ;D ;D ;D

Maybe next time if I can restore one of the 500s I'll be able to attend, work is progressing but it's slow as most of the parts need either chroming, BZP or powder coating. Only the parts being resprayed are coming on although I do have the first lot in the chromers as we speak.
