Title: Rudge not a Honda
Post by: captaink on September 16, 2015, 09:43:12 PM
Heres one of my bikes that I restored a few years ago. 1939 Rudge Special 500cc
Ok its not an age related colour that's for sure but I like it and was badgered into painting it this colour.
The bike was a back to bare metal strip down, and complete overhaul except the engine which had been rebuilt a couple of years prior to me getting it.
It runs a treat, will kick you back like stallion on steroids.
A heavy well designed bike that rides really nice.
Hope you like

Regards Keith

Well that's a change from Black.
Looks really nice, do you take it out?
Where are you in Kent? (roughly)

All your restorations are absolutely stunning. The plumbings a bit rough though, love the water main nailed to the wall. ;D

I'm in west malling area, Kent although some bikes are at work as I have my car in the garage and badly in need of space
The bike was originally black, and I was going to keep that but the painter I used suggested it and for some reason I just rolled with it.
Yes I have ridden it and it rides nice although I have a leak on the carb at present and not got round to doing it..... Just another job to do.
I restored it a few years ago and the garage has changed since, that water pipe was compressed air pipe and now gone.

Pipes now gone but there's room for the car and a few bikes

The mancave to beat all mancaves. Awesome. Love the GT40. Rep or real thing?

Replica.
I built it about 2-3 years ago
This is the second gt40 I have built and about 6 cars in all.
My first gt40 I sold is now in Spain at the Ascari race circuit and regularly thrashed
I won't build any more as I have a back problem from time to time so there a bit heavy duty, that's why the bikes are there, lighter and far cheaper
I still have my 640 HP Ultima gtr race car but it's undergoing modification when time allows me.

Wow what a mancave as James says.
Are you anywhere near Goddens?
One of my past customers.
Think i would spend my life in there.

Is that goddens in seven mile lane the classic bike and car dealer or
Goddens in paddock wood area the Vincent dealer and workshops.

I'm 5 minutes from seven mile lane

The Vincent dealer and workshops.
Used to belong to Don Godden the Off road racer and now owned by Gary since Don
went to the great workshop in the sky.

I had my norton commando head fitted with helicoil inserts by them, impressive workshops making Vincent parts etc, did a good job for me.

They have been around a long time.
I'm a patternmaker (Dial Patterns Ltd)
and have made a fair bit of Vincent stuff.
Last job they did for me was to machine a batch of Velocette Thruxton heads for me.

Your matchless sounds a nice machine
I had a 1927 triumph 277cc only, sold it last year to a pub in the Cotswolds who wanted it for a display in the pub.

Yet it's a bit rare, looks like a Brough with a long oval nickel tank.
no others on the road in this country.
allegedly one in Netherlands and 2 in pieces in Australia.
Mine has the gearbox in bits at the mo.
I keep playing with these Honda's instead of getting it back on the road.

Only trying to help the guy,
Anyway I need another bike ! ;D
I don't have a matchless although I nearly bought a G50 a while ago
If there's a G50 or G45 sitting in someone's shed unloved give me a call

:-), that garage looks pretty chocka - sure you have room for another :-) ? Looked like the G50's cleaned up at the Goodwood revival. I've never ridden a british bike of that Era (only a 67 T120, Commando special and Commando Fastback). Quite a contrast to our sohc's...

Your other man cave is pretty impressive
What year is the flat tank? mid 20's
I make brown and Barlow 1920 twist grips if you want to get rid
of levers for period throttles oh and replica celluloid grips.
