Title: purchasing piston rings?
Post by: bigmockuk on January 01, 2015, 06:24:44 PM
Can anyone recommend where to buy a full set of rings for the 550k3? took the whole top half off and almost all is in really good condition,rockers/arms/camshaft were well lubed as was valves, however no4 piston was seized due to bike being laid up,first compression ring,it was seized fully shut (broke when trying to remove after 2 carefull hrs!)  2nd ring was seized half way round, scrapper was fine so gonna replace all rings, bores seem perfectly ok and oiled, bike has only 23,000 genuine miles so parts should have been relatively good, but where to buy rings from? i have seen some jap imports from ebay on the go??  any info most welcome thanx

I have bought 4 sets of 500 std rings for mine, from David Silver,I asume ones for your bike are available,
they were made by NPR of Japan,at about £16 per set,

 seem to have worked ok,

its worthwhile lightly taking the glaze of the bores using light oil, emery and large split pin in an electric drill

Thanx trigger/john £16 a set? cant complain at that price, thats interesting about taking the glaze of the surface of the bores i remember reading something about that a few yr back, suppose it would help to bed in the new rings? i fitted new rings to a cb125t yrs ago but did not rub down the bores, seemed to run fine but guess it wont hurt, cheers guys

Standard, to cross hatch the cylinders when replacing with new rings.
Cruzinimage charge £27 for all 4 and about £7 P&P.
